Brown Shoots For Six With Beaded In Brisbane

Beaded

Beaded is now the favourite for the Doomben 10,000 after the scratching of Hay List

With Hay List out of the Doomben 10,000 Beaded has shot to the top of the betting market and many believe she’ll be the first across the line in Brisbane today.

The man in charge of getting her there is Corey Brown and if he can do it in the process he’ll join an elite club.

Brown has won five Group 1’s for five different trainers this season, and a Beaded victory would extend that to six.

It’s a mark only two others have managed to reach in the last 15 years with Glen Boss in 2003-2004 and Damien liver in 2001-2002.

Given the amount of winners Peter Snowden himself has trained this season there’s probably not a better trainer he could be following for a sixth Group 1.

Browns wins thus far have come on More Joyous in the Geroge Main Stakes, Sacred Choice in the Myer Classic, Shocking in the Australian Cup, Rangirangdoo in the George Ryder and Mirjulisa Lass in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

It’s hard to think any jockey would be in a position to catch Luke Nolen given he’s been on Black Caviar all season, but now she’s in the spelling paddock Brown has his opportunity.

“I’m not giving up hope of catching Luke but I’m running out of races,” he said.

To do it he’ll almost certainly need a win today though and he’ll surely be nearby at the end.

Beaded has had 19 runs for nine wins in her career but she’s also placed on another nine occasions.

The only race she didn’t manage to place in was the Stradbroke Handicap last year and even then she was fourth across the line.

One negative is that he’s never actually ridden the horse in a race before with a barrier trial last week his first chance to get a feel for her.

“She trialled great,” he said.

“She’s only tiny but is a real little professional and gives 110 percent every time.

“I know Peter would definitely love a stable full of horses like her.”

She’s yet to win a Group 1 but as has been pointed out she certainly wasn’t far away.

Four times she’s placed at the top level and the last two of them were behind the all conquering Black Caviar.

She probably should have broke her duck at Morphettville where she was narrowly edged out by Response, but in Brisbane her luck is turning.

If the two favourites Black Caviar and Hay List were still entered she’d effectively be running for third, so this is her best chance yet.

“I think the key to the race could well be Border Rebel, who likes to lead, from the inside barrier,” Brown said.

Beaded is drawn a little awkwardly but she is the type that can race anywhere in the field.

“She is so honest, I know she will give her all.

“She’s in good form and no horse deserves a Group 1 win more than she does, that’s for sure.”

Brown’s other main ride at Doomben today is the erratic but talented Peck in the Grand Prix Stakes with his other major hope Fanjura scratched from the Premier’s Cup.
