The Everest 2020 Betting: Late Mail Tips on The World’s Richest Turf Race

Sydney hosts the $15 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick today and below we take a look at the latest betting markets and late male tips on the world’s richest turf race.

Due to run as Randwick Race 7 at 4:15pm (AEDT) – one hour before Melbourne hosts the Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) this afternoon – the 2020 The Everest field features a stellar line-up of 12 sprint stars.

The Everest Day favourite is the firming Les Bridge-trained Classique Legend into $4.60 through Ladbrokes.com.au to improve on his sixth behind Yes Yes Yes (2019) in last year’s The Everest results.

No doubt the classy grey has a great finishing burst, but will it be enough to hold out multiple Group 1 champion Nature Strip ($5 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) for Chris Waller with the one-time favourite after atonement for his two lead-up runs?

With plenty of form lines to follow into The Everest and a few eleventh-hour calls-ups into the field at big odds there could be plenty of value looking outside the dominant duo in the markets.

Check out the Races.com.au team’s insider 2020 The Everest tips and best bets before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best markets on the fourth edition of the weight-for-age feature.

Best Value: #5 Behemoth ($9.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW

The question punters always have to ask themselves this time of year is whether to follow the Melbourne or Sydney form lines. Behemoth comes off back-to-back Group 1 Caulfield wins over 1400m having completed the Memsie Stakes – Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes double in style. This hulking South Australian sprinter drops in distance and will need to be good in a field of genuine 1200m stars, but he’s going too good to ignore and can use that nice barrier (2) to his advantage and give them a run for their money in this.

Best Roughie: #2 Trekking ($12 at time of publish) – BET NOW

The Godolphin-raced Trekking won the Schillaci ‘win and you’re in’ last year and backed-up to finish third The Everest in 2019. Since then, the son of Street Cry has enjoyed a second career Group 1 in Adelaide’s The Goodwood defeating one of the favourites today – Gytrash. First-up he was eye-catching when runner-up in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley and will be improved second-up in Sydney getting out over the 1200m. Consistent horse, drawn well and is overs.

Don’t Be Surprised If: #6 Bivouac ($10 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Another double-figure runner seemingly forgotten from the Royal Blue brigade is this fellow James Cummings-trained sprinter to be ridden by last year’s The Everest winning hoop Glen Boss. Has a wider draw (10) to overcome, but that should suit his get-back style. Not far off Classique Legend when running a first-up third in the Group 2 The Shorts and has a strong second-up record.

The Favourite: #3 Classique Legend ($4.60 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Classique Legend might not be as wonderful as the former Grey Flash Chautauqua, but there is no doubting he is one of the fastest horses in the country at the moment. Never runs a bad race and beat plenty of these first-up in The Shorts. Second in a shock loss to Libertinie in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes, but confident he can atone and turn the tables here. Two-time The Everest winning hoop Kerrin McEvoy is the pilot and has to be included in all exotics.
