Peter Moody’s last start Group 2 Stutt Stakes winner was to have backed-up at elite level in the Group 1 $2 million Neds Caulfield Guineas (1600m), but was scratched needing minor surgery for a throat issue.

The updated Caulfield Guineas odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have shortened on the top elect Ole Kirk for Hawkes Racing who comes off the eye-catching win in Sydney’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Jumping from a nice midfield barrier seven draw with leading Perth jockey William Pike aboard, Ole Kirk is in from $4.50 to $3.20 to handle the mile and salute for the punters in Melbourne.

It is a tight Caulfield Guineas betting battle behind the favourite with three chances all nearly equal in the markets including the now $6 second elect Tagaloa.

Craig Williams jumps aboard the Blue Diamond winning Lord Kanaloa colt for the in-form training duo of Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young with a favourable barrier three draw.

Tagaloa is after his first victory since the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at the track during the autumn and is third-up here coming off the close sixth when under two lengths off The Everest-bound Behemoth in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

Equal on $6.50 are then Peter & Paul Snowden’s dual Group 1 winner King’s Legacy ($6.50) and the undefeated Chris Waller-trained Mo’unga coming into barrier 10 and 11 respectively.

Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Legacy is already proven at the mile having won the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) in Sydney over the autumn at the distance and presents fit third-up.

He was an eye-catching third to Ole Kirk at big odds in the Golden Rose and, getting out over further with improvement to come, only needs to handle the Melbourne way of racing to be competitive in his hunt at a third career Group 1.

Mo’unga meanwhile is the up-and-coming danger bringing the ‘X Factor’ into the stallion-making race.

The son of Savabeel has won his opening three starts in easier company, the latest in Rosehill’s Listed Dulcify Stakes (1500m) that he won by 1.5 lengths.

Saturday is his acid test, but the bookies are taking no chances on the untapped youngster from Sydney’s top stable.
