Caulfield Track Report – 29/09/2019

  • Rail: Out 6m Entire Circuit
  • Weather: Overcast
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Track Rating: Good (4)
  • Irrigation: 6mm last 24 hours; 24mm last 7 days
  • Rainfall: Nil last 24 hours; 4.6mm last 7 days

It is a partly cloudy but otherwise fine day in Melbourne for Underwood Stakes Day meaning the current Good (4) Caulfield track rating is set to remain across the afternoon.

Caulfield racing kicks off at 1:00pm (AEST) with the nine-race card continuing through until the last at 5:00pm (AEST).

There are three Group status races on the program starting with Race 5 at 3:00pm when the three-year-old colts and geldings face off in the Group 3 $250,000 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

The big lead-up into the $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas on October 12, the Prelude field is down to 15 runners after three official scratchings.

The Holy One was withdrawn in favour of a Friday night run under the lights at The Valley where he won the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m).

Stablemate, the fellow Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Barcali was also scratched from the Caulfield Guineas Prelude field only to win on Moir Stakes Night.

Updated 2019 Caulfield Guineas Prelude odds have Dalasan ($2.25) as the hot favourite at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au following his two good wins this prep, the latest in Flemington’s Group 2 Danehill Stakes.

Next on the line-up it is the fillies’ turn in the Group 2 $250,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at 3:30pm.

Again, there are 15 hopefuls in the mix after the early withdrawal of the James Cummings-trained Pin Sec.

Cummings still has a huge chance in the 2019 Thousand Guineas Prelude with Flit ($3.60) the widely-drawn favourite in barrier 15 with Hugh Bowman to ride, and stablemate Tenley ($5) also well-fancied in gate four.

In the day’s marquee race, the Group 1 $750,000 Underwood Stakes  there are 12 remaining runners after the withdrawal of the Liam  Howley-trained Yucatan (11).

Stablemate Homesman leads the latest 2019 Underwood Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au chasing back-to-back wins in the 1800m feature after a first-up victory in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes.

See below for the full Underwood Stakes Day scratchings and race times before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the top Melbourne racing odds.
