Queen of the Turf, Doncaster Mile Next Up for Invincible Gem

Invincible Gem did it all too easy at Rosehill on Saturday claiming the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) in impressive fashion.

After running eighth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic a fortnight ago, the heavy track proved no worries for the I Am Invincible mare, who went toe-to-toe with Daysee Doom down the straight to win by half a length.

Jockey Corey Brown earned himself a double after sitting off the pace in the early goings. Ron Quinton’s Daysee Doom was among a trio of horses fighting for the lead, but while the leaders slowed down over the final furlong, Invincible Gem’s impressive speed did the talking.

“She didn’t have it easy, I had to work hard for the first two furlongs” Brown said after the race.

“I was rapt when young Andrew Adkins fell over to the fence and Dyslexia hovered around there for a while, but once we got to the front we did slow up noticeably but we’d done some work getting there. So it was was a good effort.”

The plan now is to back up in next week’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) or potentially wait an extra week to contest the Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

“We will weigh up all our options. Kris (Lees) will come back and assess her after this weekend but there are plenty of options there for her, she’s a tough mare” stable rep Lucas Miller said.

Invincible Gem was equal 32nd on the order of entry for the Doncaster prior to Saturday’s race. After running 14th last year, the five-year-old remains a $51.00 chance for the Doncaster and has also firmed from $51.00 into $26.00 for the Coolmore Legacy.

Race-favourite Dyslexic looked to find a favourable position along the rail but ran out of room over the final furlong to finish fifth.
