A superior first-up performer, Andrew Noblet’s class mare Super Cash will be freshened-up again targeting the 2018 Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide next start after going back-to-back in the Rubiton Stakes on CF Orr Stakes Day.

The mare won the short-distance Caulfield sprint 12 months ago, and the now five-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon became the fourth multiple winner of the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Rubiton Stakes (1100m) this autumn.

Scoring her fifth win from six first-up runs and her fourth from six runs at the Caulfield track, Super Cash showed off a superior late turn-of-foot to successfully defend her Rubiton title after a bustling run.

Ridden by internationally performed hoop Craig Williams, Noblet’s stable ace was having her first start since the eighth at big odds behind The Everest winner Redzel in Flemington’s Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Noblet was always confident coming into the Rubiton Stakes fresh, but was a little worried when Williams and Super Cash ($4.40) looked like they might not get a run at the top of the straight.

Once the gap appeared however she powered away to run down the nearly all-the-way leader Flamberge ($14), Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra’s three-time Group 1 winning eight-year-old brave in defeat.

Rounding out the exciting Rubiton Stakes trifecta in a close third just a neck further back first-up was the progressive Mick Price-trained Coolmore Stud Stakes winning Fastnet Rock colt Merchant Navy ($3.90) on his way to Super Saturday’s Newmarket Handicap.

“She is a ripper, a beautiful horse,” winning hoop Williams said after the race.

“She’s a beautiful mare…I was confident on her once we got the gap.

“She’s got a great acceleration.

“She was really, really good…she’s a delight to ride.”

Noblet plans to give his dual Rubiton Stakes winner a short break before heading to Morphettville on May 5 for the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

“She’s a good horse fresh,” he said.

“She looked super today, I was really confident she’d go well.

“She’s a dynamite mare.

“I think we’ll just go straight to the Sangster and give her a little freshen-up again to get ready for the Group 1 in Adelaide.

“She’s a lot stronger, she’s filled out a lot

“She couldn’t have spelled better and she’s come back accordingly.”
