Kingston Town Classic 2017 Odds Update: Black Heart Bart Firms

The money on top fancy Black Heart Bart to post Group 1 win number six in the 2017 Kingston Town Classic on Saturday continues to roll in ahead of the last elite level of the calendar year down under.

The Perth expat was so gallant in his heartbreakingly close homecoming a fortnight back when a luckless first-up second to Great Shot in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).

Darren Weir’s Blackfriars seven-year-old is back at Ascot Racecourse for the 22nd time on the weekend lining-up from barrier one in the 15-horse field for the Group 1 $1 million Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

Fitter second-up, Black Heart Bart is tipped to break an uncharacteristically long winning drought that goes back to his Group 1 CF Orr – Futurity Stakes double back in February.

Since 2008, five favourites in Kingston Town Classic betting have saluted for the punters and this summer Black Heart Bart has been backed in from $3.20 to $3 at Ladbrokes.com.au to be the next.

Black Heart Bart is out to be the sixth Kingston Town Classic favourite since 2008 to win the Perth summer classic on the weekend

The Kingston Town Classic odds on the James Cummings-trained second elect It’s Somewhat have eased out slightly from $4.80 to $5.50 despite the Doncaster Mile champ having won a W.A. trial emphatically on November 27.

All reports are that the Dynaformer seven-year-old has settled into Perth well as It’s Somewhat looks to improve on his last start third to Tosen Stardom at Flemington in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) on November 11.

The genuine Kingston Town Classic betting market mover meanwhile is the Grant & Alana Williams-trained local filly Perfect Jewel who has been well supported coming in from $7 to $6.

Two years ago the also Grant Williams-trained filly Perfect Reflection (2015) beat home the older horses at weight-for-age in the Kingston Town Classic results, something the punters are tipping Perfect Jewel to emulate this season.

Drawn in gate nine with William Pike in the saddle, the three-year-old daughter of Redoute’s Choice has won all but one of her five career starts including a lead-up victory in the Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) on Railway Stakes Day.

The last of the single-figure fancies in the Kingston Town Classic 2017 is the Chris Waller-trained Tom Melbourne steady at $8.

Damien Oliver rides the always-honest import in Perth again after running just a quarter length third in the Railway Stakes.

That is the same lead-up Waller’s 2014 Kingston Town Classic winner Moriarty brought into the race when saluting as the equal favourite in betting that year.

Tom Melbourne has been dubbed Australian racing’s bridesmaid as the seven-year-old has racked up a frustrating succession of close placings this season.

He ran second four times on the trot before a sixth in the Toorak Handicap, then was runner-up in the Kennedy Mile during the Melbourne Cup Carnival before his Railway Stakes third.
