2017 Sandown Guineas Betting Tips & Update

The Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas 2017 is the final three-year-olds’ old feature of the spring carnival in Melbourne, betting tips and updated odds on Saturday’s mile showdown at Ladbrokes Park detailed below.

Running as Race 8 at 4:40pm (AEDT) on Zipping Classic Day, all 11 original final acceptors for the Group 2 $250,000 Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas (1600m) remain in the mix and it’s an open affair from a betting perspective.

Beau Geste ($4.60) leads the latest Sandown Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, the James Cummings-trained Street Cry colt looking to improve on his fourth when only a half-length beaten after a gallant chase on Derby Day in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m).

The other best graduate out of that Flemington showdown on November 4 backing-up in the Sandown Guineas over the same distance is fifth placed Snitzepeg.

Darren Weir’s galloper was a back-to-back black-type winner prior to that and was a nostril flare off Beau Geste.

Snitzepeg now pays $5 occupying the second line of betting for the rematch to turn the tables.

So will the top two fancies be battling it out late in the Sandown Guineas results or is there value to be had further down the markets from the likes of the well-supported All Too Hard colt Villermont ($6.50) who is a proven miler or even Hypnotist ($11) who gives Peter Snowden (trainer) and Kerrin McEvoy (jockey) the chance to win the race for the fifth time together?

Our 2017 Sandown Guineas Trifecta Tip is #1 Snitzepeg from #4 Hypnotist and #11 I’ll Have A Bit

1st

#1 Snitzepeg ($5)

Find the easing price on Snitzepeg attractive. There was nothing between him and Beau Geste in the Carbine Club Stakes, which looks the form line to follow into this. Won successive 1400m Listed races before that so knows how to get to the line. Sandown track should suit, will be finishing hard and with the experience at a mile is right in it. Craig Williams did a bit wrong last start and replacement Dean Yendall will have him closer to the pace. Hard to hold out late.

2nd

#4 Hypnotist ($11)

Good price on offer for one of the two Team Snowden-trained runners. Peter Snowden won this race four times for Darley, McEvoy on all four winners, and the duo return in 2017 with this son of Snitzel who had excuses when ninth from out wide in the Carbine Club Stakes. He really wasn’t that far beaten and has now had a few goes at a mile, including a win. Could be the big improver out to atone.

3rd

#11 I’ll Have A Bit ($16)

The only filly in the mix, this daughter of Smart Missile gets the gun run from the gate and while she can’t win, a top three finish is not out of reach. Was three lengths beaten by subsequent VRC Oaks placed Bring Me Roses in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m), but her run wasn’t great. Second last start on Cox Plate Day in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (1600m). Right distance, can place.
