Global Glamour Returns on Caulfield Cup Day 2017

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Global Glamour will head straight to Melbourne for her spring return racing on 2017 Caulfield Cup Day on October 21.

Originally the dual Group 1 winning daughter of Star Witness was set to kick things off in late September at home in Sydney on Epsom Handicap Day in the Premiere Stakes.

A setback saw plans for her four-year-old debut change and Global Glamour will now race first-up in the Group 2 $200,000 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse.

It will be her first start at the track since she backed-up from a Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) win at Randwick last October to win the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in her maiden Melbourne run.

Since then Global Glamour has enjoyed just one other win, a narrow effort over Foxplay in mid-February’s Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) also at Randwick.

She hasn’t raced since crossing only a length away second behind Derryn in the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Stakes (1200m) back on April 8 during ‘The Championships’.

Global Glamour has trialled twice at Randwick in September leading-up to her much awaited return with jockey Tim Clark aboard for the hit-outs.

Clark also rode the then filly to victory in last year’s Flight Stakes, while his latest ride under race conditions was at the Gold Coast in January for the second behind Flying Jess in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).

The jockey reunites with Global Glamour first-up in the 2017 Tristarc Stakes and is excited to get back aboard the mare who is likely to target the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse on Victoria Derby Day, November 4.

“She’s one of my favourites, has given it her all both times I’ve ridden her,” Clark told Racing Victoria.

“The Tristarc Stakes looks a real nice race for her and off what she’s doing at home, I think she’ll take a power of beating.

“Both trials have been very sharp and she’ll be well suited under the conditions of the race.”

Co-trainer Waterhouse prepared the 2005 Myer Classic winner Lotteria who came off a second in that year’s Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).

A number of mares put their Myer Classic 2017 credentials on show over the weekend including Robert Smerdon’s Blazer Stakes winner at Flemington Now Or Later, and the Ron Quinton-trained stablemates Dixie Blossoms and Daysee Doom who ran the quinella at Randwick in the Group 3 Angst Stakes.

Clark meanwhile races in Sydney this Saturday before heading to Melbourne with a mount in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick aboard the Lindsay Park-trained filly Tulip.

Pierro three-year-old Tulip is a $51 outsider in The Everest betting at Ladbrokes.com.au chasing her first win since the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill back in March.

The Golden Slipper third placegetter faces the winner of that $3.5 million feature, She Will Reign, who is favourite in The Everest odds after her first-up Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) success at Moonee Valley.
