Pariah Considered for The Everest 2017

Co-trainer Paul Snowden is not shying away from a possible 2017 The Everest run with Pariah this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival as the James Harron Bloodstock slot for the $10 million feature remains to be filled.

Redoute’s Choice colt Pariah enjoyed a smart two-year-old campaign headlined by his second to Catchy in the Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in February.

He is yet to live up to his full potential however having failed to win since his successful debut at Rosehill in late January’s Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m).

The now three-year-old returns to that track and distance first-up on Saturday jumping clear favourite for the Group 3 $150,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).

It will be the colt’s first run since the disappointing 11th to She Will Reign in the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on March 18.

Snowden has been impressed with Pariah’s two subsequent trials, the up-and-comer winning a 740m hit-out at Randwick on July 10 before his second to Winx in a 1000m heat on August 8.

“He has prepped up well with two solid trials and he is in good order,” Snowden told Racing NSW this week.

“He was out there to do a bit against Winx but still had a fair bit underneath him so it was very pleasing but you want to see him start doing it on the track now.”

In the San Domenico Stakes this weekend, Pariah jumps from barrier nine of nine with Blake Shinn reuniting with the youngster who heads the markets at $2.50.

Plans are to take Pariah third-up into the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1200m) back at Rosehill on September 23.

Snowden’s father Peter has enjoyed three Golden Rose Stakes victories in the past decade with the filly Forensics (2008), Denman (2009) and most recently Epaulette (2012).

Futures Golden Rose odds this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival have Pariah as the $8 second elect behind the Gerald Ryan-trained Menari ($8).

A trip to Melbourne on October 14 for the Group 1 $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) over the mile, which Peter Snowden has also won three times including in 2014 with Shooting To Win who he prepared in partnership with his son, could also be on the cards for Pariah.

Snowden however is keeping the option open to remain in Sydney on the same day for the inaugural edition of the Restricted The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick, which Pariah’s majority owner James Harron holds a slot for.

“He’ll be third-up in the Golden Rose and there is no dead given he’ll go to the Guineas after that,” Snowden said.

“He might be a little bit too brilliant for a mile so that question will be answered in the Rose depending on how he handles 1400m.

“If he is going absolutely super, James [Harron] has a slot in The Everest or we could freshen up and go to the Coolmore.”

The Group 1 $1 million Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) runs down the famous Flemington straight on Victoria Derby Day, November 4.

Pariah is listed as a $17 chance in futures Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas betting, while the smart three-year-old currently pays $21 in all-in The Everest odds online.
