The first foal of equine superstar Black Caviar, Oscietra is ready to complete an unofficial jump out at Geelong ahead of her 2017 Spring Carnival campaign.

Plenty of hype has understandably surrounded the racing career of Oscietra so far, but the rising three-year-old has only made one competitive appearance at the races so far; a smart run for third behind Limestone in the New Year Plate (1000m) at Flemington on January 1^st.

Pleased with the benefit that the filly has taken from her time away from racing and subsequent return to work, co-trainer Tom Dabernig told Racenet that the filly is ready for a hit-out on the synthetic surface at Geelong, but exact Spring Carnival targets are yet to be set.

“Our decision to give her a jumpout at Geelong is to see what she’s like there,” Dabernig said.

“If it’s too wet on the turf and we want to kick her off in a maiden there, then we could.

“Horses like Keen Array and Stay With Me won their maidens on the synthetic, so that’s not an issue.”

Luke Nolen partnered Black Caviar in all but three of her twenty-five career starts and was given the ride on Oscietra when she made her competitive debut.

Jumping from the gates well, Nolen allowed the Exceed And Excel filly to take up the running and she showed plenty of ability throughout the early stages of the race.

Kicking clear, the filly mustered a smart turn of foot, but was clearly still very green in her racing and faded in the final 200m to finish third behind subsequent stakes winner Limestone and Miss Wahoo.

A race like the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1200m) on the Flemington straight may figure as the first black type target for Oscietra in early September.
