Ability Heads All Victorian Sprint Series Final 2017 Betting

The in-form Robert Smerdon-trained Ability is tipped as a hard-to-beat favourite in 2017 All Victorian Sprint Series Final betting at Flemington Racecourse this weekend.

The last of the four stakes races on the Finals Day card, the $150,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) runs as Flemington Race 8 at 4:10pm (AEST) on Saturday afternoon.

The line-up is down to 11 hopefuls after the early scratching of Kirani (8) and updated All Victorian Sprint Series Final odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are firmly led by well-bred Reward For Effort four-year-old Ability at $3.

Set to jump from gate eight with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle, Ability chases a third win from as many starts this prep.

First-up he saluted over 1000m at Moonee Valley before a June 24 Flemington win over 1100m, making up ground in a fast-finishing effort off a luckless run.

He has continued to progress through the grades in fine style and will be hard to hold off on the minimum, especially with a clearer run.

Four of his rivals are also at single-figures in the latest All Victorian Sprint Series Final betting markets including Husson Eagle and Duke Of Brunswick at $6.50 apiece.

Husson Eagle lines-up for Plumpton trainer Patrick Payne and comes off the second when pipped at the post by Ability late last month.

He gets the chance to turn the tables on his last start conqueror and is in some of the best form of his career, but just needs to handle the 1200m having finished third just once from his six previous tests at the distance.

Duke Of Brunswick is better performed at the 1200m, Mick Price’s Magnus gelding boasting three wins and two seconds from eight runs over the metres.

The five-year-old is out to atone for a ninth in the Cranbourne Cup (1600m) from back in early March when under three lengths beaten and will be flying over this distance after the freshen-up.

At $8 each are then the 60kg top weight Tashbeeh jumping from the inside alley and Camdus drawn one on his outside but getting in on the 54kg light weight.

Lindsay Park’s in-form Commands stallion was third to Snoopy last December over 1400m here and has had just the one run since.

The five-year-old enjoyed a first-up win on May 20 in the Listed Straight Six (1200m) taking his Flemington track record to four wins and four seconds from 11 runs.

He does rise three kilos from his winning weight when resuming, but races well fresh and remains a top three chance.

Camdus represents Victoria’s leading horseman Darren Weir and is both weighted and drawn for a gun run with Michael Dee jumping aboard the Street Cry five-year-old.

A Moonee Valley winner carrying 58kg two back, Camdus comes off a second at that same track on June 12 behind Lord Da Vinci and has previous winning form at Flemington.

He is back up from 52.5kg last time out, but is a genuine 1200m sprinter with a brilliant strike rate at the distance (12-5-3-1).

Ruettiger ($8.50) is also under $10 for the win, while local perennial placegetter Rough Justice ($11) represents the value with 11 top three runs from 15 Flemington starts on his record.
