Chris Waller’s recent black-type winner at the Gold Coast Religify is tipped to return to form with a Doomben win on Stradbroke Handicap Day sitting top of the 2017 The Wayne Wilson field and odds this weekend.

Due to jump at 12:30pm (AEST) as Doomben Race 3, the field for this year’s $100,000 Listed The Wayne Wilson (1600m) is down to 10 milers after the early withdrawal of Sold For Song (7) who instead takes on a field of fellow mares over less metres in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at the meeting.

Heading the updated The Wayne Wilson Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.20 for the win is Waller’s Choisir six-year-old Religify to be ridden by Hugh Bowman for the third time in as many runs this campaign.

First-up on A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day the gelding posted a nice win in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) before his distant sixth at Eagle Farm in the wet on May 27 in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m).

He is down in grade again this weekend and will appreciate a firmer Doomben track, returning to Brisbane’s other course for the first time since his second to Snippets Land in last year’s Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m).

Following that run, Religify ran sixth to Hopfgarten in The Wayne Wilson when the race took place at Eagle Farm and he’ll be out to improve on that this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Occupying the second line of The Wayne Wilson betting at an equal $4.60 to hold out the Waller-trained favourite are Col ‘N’ Lil and Moher.

She has plenty of mile form (9-1-4-2) and from her five previous runs over the distance at Doomben she has enjoyed three seconds and a third.

The rails run on Saturday belongs to the Darren Beadman-trained Godolphin galloper Moher who has Tye Angland coming on for the ride.

The Lonhro four-year-old was last seen finishing a close third just two lengths off the winner at Rosehill in a Benchmark 95 over 1500m on May 20.

He carted 60kg from a wide alley (12 of 16) that run and drops back to 56.5kg at set weights plus penalties this weekend chasing his first win since December last year.

In an open betting affair two other runners are under double-figures with Waller’s Snitzel mare Elle Lou ($6) coming off a Lord Mayor’s third and the Chris Anderson-trained Excites four-year-old Mystic Opal ($9).
