Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr‘s underrated player in the 2025 Might And Power on Caulfield Guineas Day, Globe, proved too good for the two spruik horses in the race when beating home Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo in the Group 1 by a runaway margin.

In one of the most brilliant front-running rides of the season, jockey Blake Shinn took control of the small four-horse field in the $1 million Might And Power (2000m) taking the seven-year-old son of Charm Spirit straight to the lead.
Shinn produced an absolute masterclass and Globe responded beautifully when travelling sweetly round the corner before giving a great kick inside the final furlong to race away and outsprint the beaten favourite Treasurethe Moment by three lengths on the line.
“I knew it had to be right to beat Treasurethe Moment, and obviously, Buckaroo got the utmost respect for them, and realistically, he’s not a proven weight-for-age horse until today,” Shinn said.
“So, we were going in a bit of the underdog, but as we’ve seen time and time again in these small fields, it’s quite tactical, and an upset can happen more often than not.
“We went in there with no pressure as the obvious leader, and look, I knew potentially the other riders were going to be more worried about themselves, and Globe’s a natural front runner, and what a thrill to be able to pull it off.”
It was a fairytale result for the lightly raced winner in his Group 1 debut and first Black-Type assignment since crossing second last (13th) in April’s Group 3 Victoria Handicap at the Caulfield track.
“It was a heist, wasn’t it?” co-trainer Kent Jnr said.
“But you know it’s a horse race, not a mathematical formula. So, we get up every day and dream these dreams, and you know it’s fantastic for the owners, big bunch, and the horse has spent his whole life earning $600,000, and he just earned another $600,000 in two minutes.
“It was never at the start of this preparation for me to say I’ll win the Might And Power, but two races I’ve watched over, one’s the Underwood, and one is this race, and they can both turn up funny results.
“So, I thought, well, it’s going to be a small field, and he did get beaten in a Ballarat Cup over 2,000 metres as an immature horse.
“It’s just one of those days where, like I said, it’s not a mathematical formula. It’s a horse race.”
Beaten jockey Damian Lane, who had earlier won the Vase on Oh Too Good, was surprised by the loss believing he had the race put away on Matt Laurie’s Memsie Stakes winning mare.
“She travelled comfortably throughout, I thought I had the race won at the 600, I just had to bide my time and go when it was right, and then upon straightening I was beaten,” he said.
“She really laboured late, which was really unlike her. Normally when she travels that strong, she really quickens, so first thoughts are disappointing without dissecting the race, going through the sectionals and everything like that, but I would expect at her best she’d go past Globe.”
The Might And Power is a key lead-up to the Group 1 $6 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 25.
Globe is not Cox Plate nominated, but Treasurethe Moment has eased out from $8 to $11 in all-in Cox Plate betting at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au following her surprise defeat.
