Confirmed The Everest slot holder, Briasa, is clear favourite to win his final lead-up into the $20 million feature on October 18 sitting top of the Premiere Stakes 2025 field and odds in Sydney this weekend.

The lucrative Group 2 $1 million Premiere Stakes (1200m) runs over the same track and trip as the Group 1 The Everest which is the world’s richest turf race.

One of the key support acts on Epsom Handicap Day, this year’s Premiere Stakes field features a quality line-up of spring sprinters with markets at Ladbrokes.com.au led by Briasa who runs for Max Whitby, Steve McCann, Colin Madden & Neil Werrett in The Everest this year.

The Team Hawkes trained Smart Missile five-year-old is tipped to return to winning form second-up on Saturday following his second fresh behind Joliestar in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m).

Winner of the autumn’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes, he looks set to appreciate the step up to six-furlongs as a five-time winner from six starts at the 1200m distance ahead of Saturday.

Classy Group 1 winning grey Briasa is on track for the Premiere Stakes back up to 1200m second-up and fitter for his resuming run!

Think About It (2023) became the first and latest horse to complete the Premiere Stakes – The Everest double, and there’s sure to be money for Briasa should he win this weekend ahead of tackling Hong Kong sensation Ka Ying Rising in a fortnight’s time.

Briasa is currently paying 2025 The Everest odds of $8 through Ladbrokes.com.au, while he’s odds-on in the Premiere Stakes betting markets at $1.85 drawn in barrier two of seven with Tyler Schiller continuing his successful partnership with the galloper.

The danger in the markets at current Premiere Stakes odds of $3.80 is Jimmysstar, who along with Private Harry, are the other runners already locked in for The Everest field facing off in the million-dollar showdown.

Prepared by Ciaron Maher, Per Incanto six-year-old Jimmysstar was huge in the autumn winning both the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) to show interstate and varying distance versatility.

Fourth when only 1.5 lengths off Briasa in the TJ Smith Stakes, he too is looking to improve second-up after resuming in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) when fifth to Headwall on September 6.

He gave plenty of weight away that day with 60.5kg – Headwall winning with 58kg – impressing jockey Ethan Brown.

“Good effort with weight,” Brown, who sticks aboard from the outside barrier seven on Saturday, said.

“He just hit a flat spot over this trip but his last 50m was great. He is well and truly on track.”

As mentioned, Private Harry is also using the Premiere Stakes as a final hit-out ahead of his The Everest bid for the TAB and is at $4.60 to win.

Nathan Doyle‘s Harry Angel four-year-old won his opening five career starts to hit the headlines in the autumn including taking out Rosehill’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) in his first Group assignment.

First-up this prep he disappointed the punters when fifth in The Shorts and is looking to win back some love with an improved run this Saturday from gate five with Tim Clark coming aboard for the ride.

The other Premiere Stakes challengers looking to put their hand up for one of the remaining The Everest slots are the rails-drawn Iowna Merc ($41), Jedibeel ($26) for trainer Brad Widdup, last start Caulfield winning Rich Enuff mare Tiger Shark ($26), and the Joe Pride trained Mazu ($10) who is never far away.

The 2025 Premiere Stakes is set to run as Randwick Race 7 at 3:35pm (AEST) ahead of the Epsom (Race 8).
