One of the key lead-up races to October’s $20 million The Everest race takes place at Randwick on Saturday with the million-dollar Concorde Stakes 2025 where Lady Shenandoah is favourite to win.

While only holding Group 3 status, the Concorde Stakes (1000m) is the richest race on the Chelmsford Stakes Day card this weekend offering $1 million in stakes and putting the winner right in the mix to secure a slot in this year’s The Everest field.
Nature Strip (2021) was the last horse to complete the Concorde Stakes – The Everest double, and there is sure to be money coming for the world’s richest turf race on whatever sprinter salutes in the Concorde on Saturday.
Favourite in the last Concorde Stakes odds at $2.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au for dual The Everest winning trainer Chris Waller is class mare Lady Shenandoah who makes her four-year-old debut on the weekend.
The ultra-consistent daughter of Snitzel, who is currently listed at $15 in futures The Everest markets, chases her sixth win on the trot after an outstanding autumn that culminated with her Group 1 Surround Stakes – Coolmore Classic double.
She is a triple elite level winner having also claimed the Flight Stakes as a three-year-old last season and looks very well equipped to handle her rivals fresh in the Concorde after beating home the older mares in the Coolmore over 1500m at her latest start.
While she is yet to taste at Randwick boasting a flawless three-from-three record at the track, the only query will be whether the 1000m will be too sharp.
Lady Shenandoah will jump from the inside barrier on Saturday with James McDonald reuniting with the deserving favourite.
Current second pick in Concorde Stakes betting at $5 is the returning Matthew Smith trained Headwall.
Drawn gate five with Zac Lloyd continuing associations with the Dream Ahead six-year-old, Headwall was very competitive at the top level in the autumn with big runs in a host of the Group 1 sprints.
After a fourth to Jimmystar only two lengths away in Caulfield’s Oakleigh Plate, he was runner-up to Joliestar with a light weight in Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap down the straight then headed to Sydney for a TJ Smith third only 1.4 lengths beaten at huge odds.
Well-travelled, he then headed west for Perth’s $4 million The Quokka race and went down in a photo-thriller to Jokers Grin to continues his string of excellent performances.
He is a standout 1000m specialist (9:5-1-3) not having won over further than that distance to date and goes well fresh making him a strong danger this weekend.
One of the four confirmed The Everest slot holders already this year lining-up in the Concorde Stakes field is Jimmysstar who is the main danger sitting on the third line of betting at $5.50 for the Group 3.
Set to run for the TAB in the big event on October 18, Ciaron Maher‘s brilliant Per Incanto six-year-old is another chasing his first win at 1000m.
A genuine first-up flyer, he has an excellent record fresh (6:5-1-0) which he is out to add to on the weekend having last been seen winning the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) here when defeating Joliestar on April 19.
He also boasts an elite level win over much less distance after his win from out wide at Caulfield in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) back in February, so could be ready to strike down in grade on Saturday.
One of two in the Concorde Stakes field for a top trainer of sprinters, Joe Pride, In Flight ($9.50) is the last of the single figure fancies and comes into the event off a rich vein of form.
This five-year-old daughter of Flying Artie has won her past three starts including July’s Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
She is yet to run out of the top two in her three 1000m starts and has won half of her four Randwick assignments so ticks a few boxes from gate six with Jay Ford in the saddle.
The 2025 Concorde Stakes is scheduled to run as Randwick Race 8 at 3:55pm (AEST).
