Private Eye for Joseph Pride heads north to Sydney second-up on Saturday chasing back-to-back wins this campaign as the narrow top elect in the 2025 Tramway Stakes at Randwick.

One of the key support races on the bumper Chelmsford Stakes Day card, this year’s Group 2 $300,000 Tramway Stakes (1400m) has drawn a smart field of middle-distance hopefuls heading towards bigger and better targets this spring.
Sitting as the current favourite in Tramway Stakes betting at $3.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au, two-time The Everest placegetter Private Eye presents fit off a lead-up win at Caulfield.
Fresh he won the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) by a runaway two lengths, and he gets the chance to add another victory to his CV now returning to Randwick for the first time since his fourth in last December’s Group 2 $2 million The Ingham.
He’s a dominant favourite now to go back-to-back despite drawing out wide in gate 14 with Nash Rawiller, who won this twice on dual champ Dreamforce, retaining the ride.
The danger following very closely in the Tramway Stakes odds at $5.50 and also drawn out wide in barrier 16 is Linebacker for Chris Waller.
Waller is after his third win in the event and first since Comin’ Through back in 2018.
Super Seth four-year-old Linebacker steps out for the first time this campaign having last been seen crossing just 1.18 lengths back eighth to Stefi Magnetica in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) here in April.
Prior to that he beat a very good horse home in Broadsiding to win the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and presents more mature and ready to show his spring potential on Saturday.
In a tight top half of the markets, two other runners are also currently under double figures for the win with the resuming Team Hawkes trained Swiftfalcon ($6) and the Bjorn Baker trained Pericles ($8.50) also racing first-up.
Ultra-consistent Exceedance gelding Swiftfalcon makes his four-year-old debut on the weekend looking to return to winning form after a frustrating string of top four placings last prep.
He hasn’t won since October last year but has been competitive in plenty since including back-to-back Group 1 thirds in the Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas so definitely has the class to show up well fresh on Saturday.
Pericles meanwhile runs for the first time since his fifth in the Doncaster over the mile here back in April when less than a length off the winner at big odds from a wide draw.
Winner of last November’s Five Diamonds, he’s got a great record at the distance (9:3-2-1) and could prove the value in this field.
The 2025 Tramway Stakes is scheduled as Randwick Race 9 at 4:35pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on the Sydney card for Saturday.
