The Godolphin raced Broadsiding was too good fresh winning Saturday’s 2025 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill to firm into the outright favourite for the upcoming Group 1 Randwick Guineas this autumn.

The James Cummings trained son of ace sire Too Darn Hot went around as the $2.90 top elect fresh in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) in Sydney and easily accounted for his rivals to kick off his campaign.
Winner of the Group 1 J.J. Atkins – Golden Rose double last time in, more elite levels look on the agenda for the class three-year-old who had a length to spare on the line in his resuming run over Swiftfalcon with Aeliana in third to complete the Hobartville Stakes trifecta.
Jockey Zac Lloyd gave the best horse in the race a peach of a ride, cuddling him at the 300m before the gun colt began his move to run down the leader Mayfair inside the final furlong.
Last autumn’s Champagne Stakes winner hit another level 100m out form the line drawing away to put a gap on the Hobartville field when flashing home in the famous Royal Blue silks.
“We’re pretty excited about having him back and we’ve been confident all over the summer that he’d come back in good shape,” Cummings told Sky Thoroughbred Cental.
“We thought it would be a matter of good luck for them beating him in a race like this, set weights, 1400m at Rosehill.”
Broadsiding is now looking down the barrel of his fourth Group 1 success set to run again at Royal Randwick on March 8 in the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m) up over a mile.
“I’d love to see him derive good benefit from this and build up nicely for the Randwick Guineas in a fortnight,” Cummings said.
“That’s important for him to have a really good baseline of fitness because that Randwick mile can be a testing one on a two-week turnaround and so he should be ready for that.
“He’s a stylish winner of two big, two impressive 1600m wins at Randwick before and I think he’s going to enjoy getting back there.
“But I love seeing the horse back like that, he’s a smashing colt and yeah, it’s going to be an exciting journey ahead for him.”
“Back against the three-year-olds is going to suit him nicely after doing battle against those weight-for-age horses, his last couple.”
Celestial Legend (2024) completed the Hobartville Stakes / Randwick Guineas double last year, a feat Cummings also recently achieved with his horse Kementari back in 2017.
Broadsiding is now into $2 in the latest all-in 2025 Randwick Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au to repeat the feat.
