Broadsiding is set to jump odds-on favourite in Ladbrokes JJ Atkins 2024 betting when the talented James Cummings-trained colt chases his fourth win on the trot this weekend at Eagle Farm.

The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival hosts its major race day on Saturday with a double-shot of elite level action slated for Stradbroke Handicap Day including the two-year-olds getting around in the Group 1 $1 million Ladbrokes J.J. Atkins (1600m).
The JJ Atkins field features 14 final acceptors this season with all the money on the Godolphin-raced son of Too Darn Hot, Broadsiding, who came up trumps with gate two for jockey James McDonald.
The in-form bay has won his past three starts to take his prize money earned up over $1.34 million after just six career runs.
Two back he handled a bottomless Heavy (10) Randwick track to win the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) before a successful trip to Brisbane on June 1.
Proving himself at Eagle Farm he won the Group 2 BRC Sires’ (1400m) that day by over a length on Slow going and looks set to relish a return to a mile now in the JJ Atkins.
His past win at the track and previous Group 1 winning form at the distance is reflected in his short price with Broadsiding at $1.90 in the latest JJ Atkins odds online at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au.
The filly Sheeza Belter (2022) was the last juvenile to complete the BRC Sires’ – JJ Atkins double.
There is a notable gap in the JJ Atkins odds between the odds-on favourite and the next two best in betting with Amelius and Imperialist the current “dangers” at $9 each.
The lightly-raced Annabel Neasham-trained Hellbent filly Amelius has her fourth start this weekend.
She was last seen running seen running a half-length second to the Chris Waller-trained Imperialist at Eagle Farm just last weekend on Queensland Oaks Day in the Listed The Phoenix (1500m).
Both horses are now on the quick back-up rising in grade off their good runs last weekend.
Tyler Schiller comes aboard Amelius in gate six, while Churchill colt Imperialist drew wider out in gate 12 with a jockey still to be confirmed.
Waller has prepared three previous JJ Atkins winners with Pressday (2010), Press Statement (2015) and most recently The Autumn Sun (2018).
Along with his The Phoenix winner, the master horseman is also represented in Saturday’s edition by a son of the stable’s 2018 champ in Mr Artemisia ($11).
Other notable hopes chasing an upset include recent Group 2 Champagne Classic winner Bittercreek, BRC Sires’ runner-up Zouna drawn in gate five for jockey Mark Zahra, and Neasham’s rails-drawn Blue Point colt Bosustow coming off a nearly three-length Doomben win in easier grade.
