The world’s richest race for two-year-olds will take place at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday with just shy of $5 million on offer in the Golden Slipper Stakes, betting tips for which are detailed below.
The Group 1 $4.92 million Golden Slipper (1200m) features a full field of juveniles and the undefeated Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Storm Boy heads betting to make it five-from-five from barrier two.
So, can co-trainer Waterhouse secure her eighth Golden Slipper victory or is an upset pending from the likes of Chris Waller’s also undefeated chance Switzerland ($4.80) who James McDonald comes aboard?
Check out our insider Golden Slipper Stakes tips and best bets below for the juveniles to back and sack before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the latest odds.
Absolutely no doubt Storm Boy is a deserving Slipper favourite boasting a flawless record of four wins so far. He drew a dream in barrier two and is prepared by the master of Slipper winners, Gai Waterhouse. The Magic Millions form from the Gold Coast this year has been enormous and he won the $3 million 2Yos Classic before returning a winner by 1.38 lengths in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes. He is three-from-three over the six furlongs (1200m) now, proven at Rosehill, and is in peak form now ready to fire again.
Storm Boy will take some beating, but for value leaning towards trainer Chris Waller preparing back-to-back winners with Switzerland on an upwards trajectory and also yet to taste defeat. Gets options from gate seven and J-Mac rides him over Storm Boy which is a real positive. Group 2 Todman Stakes win by the son of Snitzel last time out by a comfortable one length margin with improvement still to come. Proven at the distance now and has upside. He came round them with ease in his lead-up success and with a quick tempo will be the one to stop late. Can win.
It’s a huge edition of the Golden Slipper and certainly many roughie hopes with genuine claims at an upset, but surely Clinton McDonald’s Blue Diamond winner has been overlooked here? She made history as just the second filly to complete the Blue Diamond clean sweep with wins in the Preview and Prelude over her own kind before beating home the boys in the Group 1 over this distance at double-figures. She has work to do from a wide alley and races the Sydney way for the first time, but at the price on class alone think she can surprise with the in-form Jamie Kah unable to do much wrong in the saddle right now.
THINK. IS THIS A BET YOU REALLY WANT TO PLACE?
