One of three Group 2 features on the Sydney race card, this year’s $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) has drawn 13 final acceptors led in betting by Godolphin’s highly-rated Tom Kitten.
The James Cummings-trained Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes winner from last prep pays $3.50 in the latest Hobartville Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au to win second-up and atone for his unplaced finish fresh.
Nash Rawiller partners the gun young son of Harry Angel from the ideal barrier four draw on what is likely to be a Soft rated track.
First-up Tom Kitten was forced to carry a hefty 60kg in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) on February 10.
He faulted under the weight running second last to Caballus, but looks primed now fitter for the run and ready to fire at set weights with 56.6kg in the Hobartville.
Occupying the second line of Hobartville Stakes betting at $6 is the widely-drawn Encap ($6) out in gate 12 with Jason Collett to ride.
The talented Gary Portelli-trained Capitalist gelding chases his second turf triumph at start number nine and was good last prep when runner-up by the barest of margins behind Militarize here in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).
He ran a first-up third in the Eskimo Prince Stakes with 58.5kg and is another sure to benefit from that run back to set weights now in the Hobartville.
Following closely at $6.50 is the early Hobartville Stakes market mover Fukubana with the Matthew Dunn-trained galloper jumping from barrier five with super hoop James McDonald in the saddle.
Well supported in from $9.50 opening odds, the in-form Dundeel colt has the fitness edge racing third-up now after two good Doomben runs.
At his latest he ran well on Soft going to salute with plenty of weight on February 10, but is up notably in grade for this.
The Les Bridge-trained Celestial Legend ($8) on the improve, Michael Freedman’s last start Warwick Farm winner Ducasse ($9), and the rails-drawn Pierro colt Les Vampires ($9.50) who won at Canterbury first-up with 61.5kg from the Waterhouse/Bott stable round out the single-figure Hobartville contenders at time of publish.
