Irish-bred Territories gelding Unspoken continued his excellent Sydney Spring Racing Carnival rising in grade to post his fourth win on the trot in the $2 million The Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.

At his last start he carted 52kg to a four-length win at Randwick over the mile in the $160,000 Filante Handicap before impressing with 56kg at set weights plus penalties in The Five Diamonds race.

Tom Sherry was in the saddle settled up near the speed as the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Zoumon looked to steal the show in front leading at 20/1.

Zoumon was tackled on the home straight as Unspoken came for him 150m out.

While Zoumon was brave, the Snowden import was able to wear him down digging deep to get up for a nose victory in the lucrative five-year-old feature.

“Prizemoney-wise it’s my biggest win, I’ve won a Group 2 and got a great thrill out of that but this was special,” Sherry said after the victory.

“Peter and Paul keep believing in me, and giving me back the ride. The horse was brilliant, I really enjoyed that.

“He only had 52kgs last start. I was so impressed with him today. A lot of the pundits were writing him off and I don’t know why, his form is tremendous. He’s kept improving the whole way.

“Things panned out perfectly, we got into a beautiful spot. He was so strong late, he tries really hard.

“He’s only acclimatised this preparation. Last prep he just wasn’t there but the team took their time. He’s got a great will-to-win, he’s very stop/start.”

In third completing the trifecta also making up ground outside was Detonator Jack crossing a half-length off the winner for the Maher/Eustace stable.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said the stable were very happy with the horse’s progress this prep and were eyeing a potential Group 1 $5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) run in Melbourne with him in 2024.

“It’s been a really solid preparation from him, he’s unbeaten,” he told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“This is his second preparation here in Australia and to see what he has done this time through.

“We’ve kept him at a mile but he’ll get a lot further than this, he could end up in a Caulfield Cup next year.”

All-in 2024 Caulfield Cup odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have Unspoken at 50/1 and are available here.
