The in-form daughter of Extreme Choice headlines an eleven-filly field for this year’s Group 1 $1 million Kennedy Oaks (2500m), which runs at Flemington two days after the 162nd edition of the Melbourne Cup takes place.
Winner of the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over the mile as a two-year-old, She’s Extreme has been excellent this campaign without winning.
She comes off four Sydney runs including back-to-back Group 1 placings at Randwick when second in the Flight Stakes over a mile in the wet behind Zougotcha before crossing only a half-length third when taking on the boys over 2000m in the Spring Champion Stakes.
The Spring Champion Stakes form was franked with the winner Sharp ‘N’ Smart running a brave second behind Chris Waller’s upset winner Manzoice in the Group 1 VRC Derby (2500m) at Flemington.
Now it looks She’s Extreme’s turn to do the same back against the girls from barrier one with Tommy Berry in the saddle.
The latest Kennedy Oaks odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have She’s Extreme on top at $2.70.
It is an open Oaks market this spring with five of her rivals also under double-figures for the win including the $6.50 second elect Zennzella for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.
Maher & Eustace, who saddle-up an impressive five runners in Tuesday’s 2022 Melbourne Cup field, could be in for a big, few days at Flemington.
Their in-form Snitzel filly Zennzella has been good since transferring to the stable from the care of Lloyd Kennewell winning two of her three starts since late September.
She went from a Pakenham maiden win over the mile on the synthetic track on October 16 wo winning last Saturday’s Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) on Derby Day at a big price.
The bookies are taking no chances with the Wakeful winner on the quick back-up now as
Zennzella looks to do the double Willowy (2021) completed last spring.
The next best in Kennedy Oaks betting are the Bjorn Baker-trained recent Ethereal Stakes winner Renaissance Woman ($7.50) back in Melbourne off her Spring Champion sixth and Lindsey Smith’s untapped Toronado filly Queen Air ($7.50), fourth in the Wakeful at just her third start, drawn in barriers eight and seven respectively.
The early VRC Oaks market mover backed in from $11 to $9 is Jamie Kah’s mount Pavitra bringing in the right form lines having run third in the Ethereal and second in the Wakeful, while fellow American Pharoah filly Foxy Cleopatra in gate nine is also being kept safe at the same price.
The 2022 Kennedy Oaks is set to run as Flemington Race 8 at 5:10pm (AEDT) on Thursday.
