Flight Stakes Odds Firm on 2021 Furious Stakes Winner Jamaea

The Robert & Luke Price-trained Jamaea atoned for her luckless first-up Silver Shadow run to come from well back and charge home late to claim the second leg of the Princess Series with a dominant 2021 Furious Stakes win.

The Headwater filly saluted at the track during ‘The Championships’ when taking out the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) in the autumn and was back in winning form second-up in the Group 2 $200,000 Darley Furious Stakes (1200m) on Chelmsford Stakes Day.

With Tommy Berry on suspension for causing the devastating Xtremetime fall in the Group 2 Silver Shadow a fortnight back, it was young apprentice hoop Brock Ryan who picked up the eventual winning ride in the Furious Stakes this spring.

From an outside gate, Jamaea settled towards the back of the field as the rails-drawn Enterprise Pomme led them around with the 25/1 shot still in front by two lengths at the top of the straight.

She was soon tackled by John O’Shea’s Husson filly Robodira, racing for the first time since a Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) second at Rosehill back in March, who looked a chance at scoring a massive upset at 50/1.

Just when it looked like the roughie was going to hold on, fellow outsider Jamaea ($21) came with a huge run late right down the outside to swamp her rivals the final 50 metres and run down a brave Robodira right on the line.

Mallory ($18) was also good second-up at big odds finishing third to round out the lucrative Furious Stakes trifecta after her lead-up fifth in the Silver Shadow when finishing one further back from Jamaea who ran fourth in the opening leg of the series.

It looks all system’s go for Jamaea to continue her spring with a third-up run in the Group 2 $200,000 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 18 before a potential shot at the Group 1 $750,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 2.

Speak Fondly (2015) was the last filly to complete the Furious Stakes – Flight Stakes double.

All-in Flight Stakes 2021 odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au for Jamaea to be the next have firmed right into $12 and are available in full here.

The Flight Stakes nominations close at midday this coming Monday, September 6.
