2020 Gosford Gold Cup Field & Odds: Greysful Glamour Favourite

Mark Newnham’s talented mare Greysful Glamour is tipped to take out the 2020 edition of the Gosford Gold Cup this weekend with the feature held at Royal Randwick due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Set to run as Randwick Race 7 at 3:20pm on the Sydney race card on Saturday, this year’s Listed $200,000 Gosford Gold Cup (2000m) features a capacity line-up including the widely-drawn first emergency Shadow Flight coming in for early scratching Frankely Awesome who had the inside alley.

It looks an open edition of the quality handicap clash with current Gosford Gold Cup betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au led by local four-year-old Stratum mare Greysful Glamour at $4.

Drawn gate 12 with Rachel King to ride, the eye-catching grey is out to break her Randwick maiden having her eighth start at the track this weekend.

Winner of the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield back in February, she comes off back-to-back Group placings with the latest on April 18 seeing her defeated just a neck by Life Less Ordinary when runner-up in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m).

Jumping from the same barrier as that day with King continuing associations, Greysful Glamour may be going up two kilos to 55kg but the punters remain confident she can return to winning form off a consistent prep.

Occupying the second line of Gosford Gold Cup betting are two $6.50 co-second elects with Best Of Days and third emergency Bottega who is far from assured of a run.

The James Cummings-trained Best Of Days carries 59kg from gate 10 with Joshua Parr booked to ride the Godolphin galloper.

A six-year-old son of Azamour, the imported gelding hasn’t won a race since his elite level success in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) at Flemington back in November of 2018.

Despite the winning drought, the galloper has enjoyed a host of subsequent Group 1 placings and was strong to the line last time out when fourth in the JRA Plate.

Being kept surprisingly safe despite needing a further two scratchings to even make the starting line-up, the widely drawn Gerald Ryan-trained Bottega (16) has run second in his two last starts both at Randwick.

The first was on a Heavy (8) in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) before running second to Kinane in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on Good (4) going proving his versatility on all track types.

The galloper is also accepted for the $100,000 Gosford Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m) at the meeting should he fail to gain a start in the feature on the card.

Chris Waller saddles-up the 59.5kg topweight in the race with Yulong Prince an early market mover backed in from $11 to $8.50.

Waller won the 2013 edition of the race at Gosford over 2100m with Moriarty and his South African-bred entire Yulong Prince comes into this year’s edition on the back of a seventh in the JRA Plate.

Along with Yulong Prince, Sydney’s premier trainer has a further four runners in the Gosford Gold Cup field including Brimham Rocks ($9.50) drawn the outside alley for jockey James McDonald.

Fastnet Rock six-year-old Brimham Rocks was seventh last time out when first-up in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup (1500m) at Rosehill beaten only 1.7 lengths.

He is down from 58kg to 57.5kg second-up here and presents fitter for the run, sure to appreciate the extra metres.

Also out wide is the last of the single figure hopefuls, John Sargent’s four-year-old Alamosa mare House Of Cartier carrying 54kg and coming off a lead-up win in the Listed Wagga Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) run in the mud only a week ago.
