Savatiano Makes Them Pay with Comfortable Millie Fox Stakes Win

Savatiano returned to the races in style at Rosehill on Saturday by winning a race she ran third in only a year ago.

The Godolphin mare by Street Cry won the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes comfortably after being backed into $2.00 favouritism, and now looks poised for a big Autumn ahead holding nominations in both the TJ Smith Stakes and the Coolmore Classic.

The five-year-old hadn’t been seen since November where she won the $1 million The Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle, but with jockey James McDonald retaining the ride, the pair proved too much for the six-horse field winning by just under three lengths.

McDonald found himself behind last years winner White Moss on the bend and was happy to stalk Jason Coyle into the final furlong. White Moss picked up the lead from Irithea at the 300m mark, before McDonald and Savatiano shifted to the outside to race away.

The win marked both James Cummings and McDonald’s first Millie Fox Stakes victory. Chlorophyll (1996) and Daysee Doom (2018) remain the only two horse to win the Millie Fox Stakes-Coolmore Classic double.

Savatiano remains a $10.00 chance in this years Coolmore Classic market, which can be viewed by clicking here.
