Danny O’Brien’s returning VRC Oaks winning filly Miami Bound holds narrow favouritism in 2020 Caulfield Autumn Classic betting to beat home the boys fresh on Blue Diamond Day.
Saturday features a massive day of autumn racing features at Caulfield Racecourse including the Group 2 $200,000 Caulfield Autumn Classic (1800m) for three-year-old stayers taking place early on the card.
The Caulfield Autumn Classic field has attracted just the nine runners and it is a shaping up as a close betting race with a number of livewire chances battling for top spot in the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Currently heading Autumn Classic betting is talented Reliable Man filly Miami Bound racing for the first time since her barnstorming three and a quarter-length win in the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington last November.
The 1800m first-up looks perfect for the bonny bay who jumps from barrier four with Damien Oliver in the saddle chasing his fifth Autumn Classic win in 20 years following previous victories aboard: Don Eduardo (2002), Elvstroem (2004), Ambitious General (2007) and Alpine Eagle (2015).
Despite looking hard to beat on paper, there is a bit of value about Miami Bound now as she has eased out from $2.50 to $2.70 in the latest Autumn Classic odds.
Close second favourite hot on her heels drawn the inside alley is the Lindsey Smith-trained Adelaide Ace.
An ultra-consistent son of Savabeel, Adelaide Ace was last seen rising notably in grade for his run in the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1400m) at the Caulfield track where he ran a close third under a length off the Group 1 winning victor Microphone.
Jockey John Allen will have no work to do from barrier one on the progressive gelding who presents fit third-up as a genuine top three hope again.
The early Caulfield Autumn Classic market mover meanwhile is Nonconformist ($6.50) chasing a hat-trick of wins.
Jordan Childs partners the Grahame Begg-trained Rebel Raider gelding who comes off back-to-back wins over the mile at Pakenham and Caulfield respectively.
This is an acid test for Nonconformist, but the ease of his February 1 win at the track by over two lengths has earned him a shot at these horses.
Also chasing a third win on the trot is the last of the single figure chances, Think ‘N’ Fly ($9.50) drawn barrier three for the Lindsay Park stable.
Mark Zahra partners the well-bred son of So You Think who comes off back-to-back wins at Sandown-Lakeside last month.
