Rubisaki Runs Them Ragged in 2020 Inglis Sprint

Three-year-old Rubick filly Rubisaki continued her winning ways at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, taking out the $1 million Inglis Sprint (1200m) under trainer Patrick Payne in a fast and furious finish.

Rubisaki’s dazzling turn of foot was first discovered back in June where she won back-to-back starts at Flemington and Seymour. She returned to the races in November to win over 1200m at Moonee Valley among BM70 quality before flying home late to win by half a length at Flemington last month.

Not surprisingly, Rubisaki went around as the favourite at Warwick Farm and showed the same speed down the straight that has quickly made her one of the country’s most exciting young sprinters.

With jockey Billy Egan on board, Rubisaki pinned back her ears over the final furlong to blaze down the inside for a comfortable 1.5L victory. Things looked a little dicey early with the pair getting back in the run, but Payne knew his horse could make up ground.

“She’s a very competitive little horse and she likes taking little tight gaps in. She’s very genuine, that didn’t worry me too much” Payne told Sky Racing.

Egan credited the gaps in between runs and the step back in distance for Rubisaki’s success.

“She’s really suited to the speed, the drop back in distance and the little freshen up and the travel up here really brought her on.”

Rubisaki, who was purchased for only $85,000, has now won five from seven starts and over $1 million in prizemoney. Perhaps the biggest victory though is knowing she can handle the heavy track.

True Detective also ran on well for third on Saturday after a challenging run on the outside.
