The Holy One found it all too easy at Moonee Valley on Friday night, claiming the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) on the way to a potential spot in next month’s Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young’s New Zealand import took up the lead early with jockey Brett Pebble on board before finding something extra down the straight to hold off the late challenging Vegas Knight.
The win was made even more impressive as Pebble lost his whip rounding the turn before recovering just in time to deliver The Holy One’s third win from five career starts.
The three-year-old colt remains a long-shot at $41.00 in All-In 2019 Caulfield Guineas odds at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au despite Friday being his first win at stakes level.
Even with the bookies showing no love, Busuttin still intends to target the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas on October 12.
“You’ve just got to have a go at the Caulfield Guineas,” Busuttin told Racing.com.
“He’ll meet better horses but there’s two million reasons to have a go.
“He’s a colt.
“He’s definitely more of a staying horse on pedigree but if you look at him there’s not much to him and we didn’t want to get him up over ground this time in.”
