2019 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Second Acceptances Leave 54

There are just 54 three-year-old milers left in Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas 2019 contention this spring following second acceptances for the $2 million classic.

Racing Victoria announced a host of nominations and varying stages of acceptance for a number of spring majors on Tuesday, including those for the coveted Group 1 $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12.

Up from 50 at the same stage last season, there are 54 gallopers making-up the official 2019 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas second acceptances.

The first key lead-up into the Group 1 classic takes place at Caulfield Racecourse this Sunday with the Group 3 $250,000 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Underwood Stakes Day.

Dalasan is the current favourite in early markets for both the Prelude and the Caulfield Guineas at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The flying Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained colt from Morphettville beat Scales Of Justice first-up in the Group 3 Spring Stakes before franking that form at Flemington on September 14 winning the Group 2 Danehill Stakes down the straight.

Helmet (2011) was the last horse to complete the Caulfield Guineas Prelude – Group 1 Caulfield Guineas double.

The most notable omission from the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas acceptances at second declaration stage was the Anthony Freedman-trained Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes winning filly Lyre.

She will instead take on her own kind in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on the same day.

Chris Waller also opted not to press on with a Caulfield Guineas bid against the boys with his impressive Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes winner Funstar after her upset win over odds-on favourite Libertini last Saturday.

The juvenile Group 1 winners that remain on the hunt for the $2 million feature are the Richard Litt-trained Champagne Stakes champ Castelvecchio and Cummings’ JJ Atkins winner Prince Fawaz.

The Lindsay Park stable have also accepted for Kiwi import Yourdeel, a nicely-bred son of Dundeel who won in Group 1 company across the ditch during the autumn.

Other early favourites in pre-field Caulfield Guineas betting include Waller’s JJ Atkins runner-up Kubrick who runs in this Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) in Sydney and the Godolphin-raced favourite in that $1 million Rosehill feature Bivouac.

Bivouac has won two from three this campaign including Caulfield’s Group 3 Vain Stakes first-up and earned Golden Rose favouritism with his lead-up Group 2 Run To The Rose victory a fortnight back.

The final Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas 2019 acceptances revealing the field of hopefuls will be announced at 9:00am local time on Tuesday October 8.
