2018 Melbourne Cup Results: Cross Counter Wins

The 2018 Melbourne Cup Day results will be updated all afternoon long at races.com.au and we will have all the action as it happens live at Flemington.

The wet weather in Melbourne has absolutely soaked the Flemington track and it is now expected the track will be in the heavy range once we reach the 2018 Melbourne Cup.

Will this effect the 2018 Melbourne Cup results? We will have to wait!

2018 Melbourne Cup Day Results

Race 1 – 10:50am Group 3 Bumble Stakes Results (1000m)

Bella Rosa held-off a fast-finishing Lankan Star and Champagne Boom to record her maiden race win in the Bumble Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

There was plenty of money for Sisstar, the sister of Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Sunlight, and Champagne Boom started favourite, but Bella Rossa proved too tough for her rivals.

Bella Rosa has been added to the 2019 Golden Slipper market with Ladbrokes at $31, while Lankan Star is $41.

  • 3rd – Champagne Boom

Race 2 – 11:30am TAB APP Trophy Results (1700m)

One More Try fought-back to score a narrow win over Seductive Miss in the TAB APP Trophy at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Seductive Miss stormed to the front at the 250 metre mark and looked as though she had the race won, but she fell into a hole at the 100 metre back.

One More Try was able to take advantage and it the front in the shadows of the post to make it three wins on the trot.

  • 3rd – Miss Siska

Race 3 – 12:05pm Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy Results (1400m)

Fifty Stars was too good for rival Manuel this time out, exploding over the final furlong to win by a length and a half.

To Kerrin McEvoy’s credit, second placegetter Manuel wasn’t disgraced down the straight, but ultimately ran out of legs once Fifty Stars loomed alongside.

Third placegetter Haunted also ran home strongly.

Race 4 – 12:40pm Ronald McDonald House Charities Plate Results (2800m)

Shraaoh had the speed and the stamina to win convincingly over Steel Prince in the Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

The result was big for punters who jumped on board at $7.00 odds, while Azuro fought home late to run third from the outside.

The first-up win was Shraaoh’s third of his lightly raced three-year career, and his first in Australia.

  • 3rd – Azuro

Race 5 – 1:15pm Schweppes Flemington Fling Results (1000m)

Legend of Condor saluted at handy odds for punters in the Flemington Fling on Melbourne Cup Day.

The $8.00 chance was too good for Feared Eyes down the straight, kicking home strongly under jockey Brett Pebble to win by half a length.

Race-favourite Heavens’ Deal wasn’t disgraced on the outside part of the track running third.

  • 3rd – Heaven’s Deal

Race 6 – 1:50pm Listed Jim Beam Black Results (1400m)

James Cummings’ fourth win of the Spring Carnival came from three-year old filly Pohutukawa in the Jim Beam Black Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Second-up, Pohutukawa marched down the outside to win by a length over Madam Rouge, who looked to have the race won along the fence.

Into The Abyss, at long $14 odds, was unlucky not to grab second after showing plenty of speed toward the line.

  • 3rd – Into The Abyss

Race 7 – 3:00pm 2018 Melbourne Cup Results

Cross Counter finished over the top of his rivals to deliver Godolphin a maiden Melbourne Cup win at Flemington this afternoon.

Marmelo and A Prince Of Arran hit the front at the 200 metre mark and looked as though they would fight out the finish, but Kerrin McEvoy timed his run to perfection on Cross Counter.

Cross Counter showed a remarkable turn-of-foot in the final stages of the contest and delivered McEvoy a third Melbourne Cup victory.

  • 2nd – Marmelo
  • 3rd – A Prince Of Arran

Race 8 – 4:05pm Listed Furphy Plate Results

Race 9 – 4:45pm Listed MSS Security Sprint Results

Race 10 – 5:20pm Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes Results
