OTI Racing’s Terry Henderson has confirmed plans for jockey Mark Zahra to be replaced with a new hoop in the Queensland Oaks 2018 at the end of the month for Aloisia.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Azamour filly is heading towards the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben Racecourse on May 26 but will not be reuniting with Zahra.
Zahra has been aboard Aloisia for her past five starts going back to February but is yet to ride her to victory.
His best result aboard last spring’s Thousand Guineas winner was a third behind Hiyaam at Rosehill on March 31 in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
Since then Aloisia has been unplaced when seventh in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) at Randwick and sixth to Sopressa in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville last time out on May 5.
Currently Aloisia is rated a $12 shot in pre-field Queensland Oaks betting at Ladbrokes.com.au and Henderson remains hopeful that a rider change can spark a return to form.
“There will be a change of jockey,” Henderson confirmed to Racing Victoria on Friday morning.
“We just haven’t had any luck at all and Mark’s sympathetic to that.
“She has just got too far back at her past three starts.
“There are a couple [of jockeys] on the short-list but Ciaron’s got it under control and they are both top jocks.”
Two fillies sit top of the latest all-in Queensland Oaks odds with Savacool and Torvill tipped as the ones to beat at $8.
Savabeel filly Savacool is prepared by Sydney’s best Chris Waller who has prepared two of the past three Queensland Oaks winners with Winx (2015) and Egg Tart (2017).
She made her black-type debut in the Schweppes Oaks finishing a credible midfield seventh when beaten only two and a half lengths.
Torvill is also prepared by a dual Queensland Oaks winning trainer, Clarry Conners, and the Not A Single Doubt filly was last seen winning the Listed The Bracelet (1630m) at Doomben on April 28.
She returns to the Doomben track on Saturday chasing another Brisbane win as a $4.50 chance in the Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions The Roses (2000m) from a wide barrier 15 draw.
As for Sopressa, she is at $10 to do the Schweppes Oaks – Queensland Oaks double emulating Egg Tart from last year.
