Viddora Heads 2018 Robert Sangster Stakes Field

Lloyd Kennewell’s Group 1 winning sprinter Viddora is the headline final acceptor into Saturday’s Robert Sangster Stakes 2018 field at Morphettville Racecourse in South Australia.

The Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival kicks into full swing this weekend with a double shot of elite level racing including the short-distance fillies and mares doing battle in the Group 1 $1 million Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

The Robert Sangster Stakes runs as Morphettville Race 7 at 4:06pm (local) and the line-up has attracted a star-studded field of 18 hopefuls.

Heading the Robert Sangster Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au tipped to go one better than her second in the race last year is the locally-trained I Am Invincible five-year-old Viddora drawn the inside barrier.

She crossed second to Secret Agenda 12 months ago, but has enjoyed a subsequent Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) win in Perth last December.

Viddora also won the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) in January and comes off a lead-up second in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) at the track, natural improvement to come fitter second-up on the weekend.

The reigning Robert Sangster Stakes winner Secret Agenda is also back chasing successive wins.

Mick Price’s Not A Single Doubt five-year-old has a wide barrier 14 draw to overcome, but saluted from barrier 16 of 20 in the race last year.

Last year’s winning hoop Damien Oliver is back aboard Secret Agenda on Saturday, the bay coming off a third in the RN Irwin Stakes from April 21 when beaten under a length.

Upset RN Irwin Stakes winner Dainty Tess also features in the Robert Sangster Stakes field, Daniel Morton’s Perth visitor chasing her third win on the trot.

An ultra-consistent daughter of War Chant, the WA-based four-year-old was impressive at Morphettville last time out and chases the RN Irwin Stakes – Robert Sangster double last completed by Driefontein (2014).

Also in flying form out to extend a winning streak is the Darren Weir-trained Quilista who has won her last three on the trot.

Damian Lane retains the ride on the Scandal Keeper four-year-old having ridden her to victory last time out at Randwick on April 14 in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).

Secret Agenda did the Sapphire Stakes – Robert Sangster Stakes double last autumn and Quilista will attempt to repeat the feat this weekend drawn well in gate four.

Weir chases his second Robert Sangster Stakes victory having prepared Platelet for her 2013 win and has also accepted for former Perth mare Whispering Brook.

The well-bred Hinchinbrook four-year-old has had three runs for Weir winning a black-type at The Valley by over three lengths in mid-March before a narrow fourth only a quarter-length beaten at Morphettville on April 7 in the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m).

She had a second go at the Morphettville track ahead of the big one on Saturday saluting on April 21 in a Fillies & Mares’ Handicap over 1200m.

Returning to the 1200m at Morphettville, Whispering Brook rises in grade but was a one and three-quarter length winner at the track and distance carrying 59kg last start and will relish the drop back to 56.5kg with Dean Yendall aboard again from barrier four.
