Fancies draw wide in 2018 Vinery Stud Stakes Field

Three of the top fancied fillies have drawn wide barriers in the 2018 Group 1 $500,000 2018 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Chris Waller trained Forgotten has drawn just worse than midfield in the fourteen horse field at barrier eight while Clarry Conners trained filly Torvill has drawn eleven and Kembla Grange Classic winner Luvaluva will jump from one from the outside at thirteen.

Hugh Bowman takes over the reins on Unforgotten from Jason Collett who was aboard the Fastnet Rock filly for her last start win in the Group 2 $200,000 Chandon S Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 17.

Kerrin McEvoy sticks with the John Sargent trained Luvaluva after the pair combined for a last start win in the Group 3 $200,000 Carlton Draught Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 16.

Torvill, with Christian Reith in the saddle again, will be stepping up to the 2000m of the Vinery Stud Stakes for the first time after finishing strongly at the end of the 1600m when runner up to Luvaluva in the Kembla Grange Classic.

“I think she can run the 2000 metres,” Conners told AAP.

Conners was hoping for a better barrier draw for the Not A Single Doubt filly but now it will be up to Reith to navigate the best path from the wide gate in the fourteen horse field.

James Cummings is still undecided what race to run Alizee after accepting with her against the mares in the Group 2 $200,000 Jim Beam Emancipation Stakes (1500m) as well as in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Golden Slipper winning jockey Brenton Avdulla has been booked to ride Alizee from barrier nine in the Vinery Stud Stakes while Tye Angland has been engaged to ride the Sepoy filly if she starts in the Emancipation Stakes.

Thousand Guineas winner Aloisia has drawn the outside gate with Mark Zahra in the saddle again and trainer Aaron Purcell has decided to take the tongue tie off after the filly was a well beaten thirteenth behind Grunt in the Group 1 $1m Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3.
