A field full of potential Randwick Guineas horses will face off a Rosehill Gardens on Saturday in the Hobartville Stakes 2018, nominations for which are now out.
The headline Sydney race on the weekend, this autumn’s Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) attracted a bumper 17 early entries including the James Cummings-trained Kementari.
The set weights clash for three-year-olds is the traditional lead-up race into the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m), held this year on March 10.
The Hobartville Stakes has produced the five most recent Randwick Guineas winners including Dissident (2014) and Hallowed Crown (2015) who both did the double.
All-in Randwick Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au this season are led by the Godolphin-raced Kementari who is also set to sit top of the Hobartville Stakes betting markets on Saturday.
Runner-up to Mighty Boss in last year’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m), the Lonhro colt was last seen winning the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up at Warwick Farm by nearly three lengths.
Siege Of Quebec (2nd) and Brave Song (3rd) are the other best out of the Eskimo Prince Stakes nominated for a rematch with Kementari in the Hobartville Stakes field on the weekend.
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott prepare Fastnet Rock colt Siege Of Quebec who is a gun at Rosehill having enjoyed two wins and a second from his three previous starts at the track.
Brave Song is one of two Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Hobartville Stakes nominations this year, the consistent Your Song colt joined in the entries by Assimilate who ran fourth in the Eskimo Prince Stakes.
Heading the Hobartville Stakes nominations numbers-wise with six hopefuls is Sydney’s leading horseman Chris Waller.
Waller’s contingent features the likes of undefeated So You Think grey D’Argento who is three-from-three to date and Tangled who ran second to Ace High in last October’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
The David Payne-trained Spring Champion Stakes – Victoria Derby double winner form the spring Ace High is also entered for the Hobartville Stakes.
The son of High Chaparral was last seen resuming on February 3 at Rosehill when fifth, beaten just over two lengths, in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) over an unsuitable sprint distance.
Winner of that race and the upset Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) champion over the Hobartville Stakes track / distance last September, the Gerald Ryan-trained Trapeze Artist is another standout nominee for Saturday’s race.
Also in the ix are the likes of Pierro colt Pierata chasing a third win on the trot after success in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast in mid-January and John Sargent’s returning Wakeful Stakes winner Luvaluva who is the sole filly in the mix.
