Classy and consistent Mornington-trained mare Petition has opened top of the Summoned Stakes 2017 odds to post her first stakes win in the Ladbrokes Park Group 3 event this weekend in MelbournPho

Closing the bumper Zipping Stakes Day card as Sandown Race 10 at 5:55pm (AEDT) on Saturday afternoon, this season’s Group 3 $150,000 Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes (1500m) field attracted 16 hopeful mares.
In the latest Summoned Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au on the set weights plus penalties clash, just four of the runners are at single-figures for the win.
Heading the markets at a firming $3.10 (in from $3.80) is the Anthony Freedman-trained Foxwedge four-year-old Petition who returns to the Ladbrokes Park track for a third time.
She has twice run third at the Hillside course and hasn’t finished worse than fourth in her 11 career starts to date.
Her latest win was at Flemington back on Anzac Day so Petition is out to break a drought on Saturday coming off two close fourths in October.
The first saw her a length and a quarter beaten at Flemington in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) before she finished under a length off dual Group 1 winner Global Glamour on Caulfield Cup Day in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) when blocked badly for a run at a crucial stage.
A step down in grade and a return to Sandown has the bookies taking no chances with Petition who jumps from barrier five with Mark Zahra in the saddle.
Occupying the second line of Summoned Stakes betting at $4.40 and drawn wider out in gate 11 is the also in-form Invincibella.
Prepared by Chris Waller, the four-year-old ran third two back at Moonee Valley on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes (1600m) before a second at Flemington on November 7 in a mares’ handicap over 1700.
She is back to 1500m in the Summoned Stakes and looks suited to the weight conditions of the race.
Following closely in the markets are then Oregon’s Day ($7) and Ravi ($7.50) drawn in barriers eight and 15 respectively.
The Mick Price-trained Oregon’s Day is out to atone for her second last in the Tesio Stakes at The Valley and goes up four kilos to 58kg, while Ravi has a wide draw but looks rock hard fit for Peter & Paul Snowden.
First-up winner of the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) by two lengths at Rosehill on September 9, Ravi went on to Caulfield later that month for a close third only a quarter length beaten in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m).
Her final lead-up was down the Flemington straight on Derby Day when fourth to Rich Charm taking on the boys in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m).
Ravi rises in weights back against her fellow mares on the weekend and is also stepping out over further than 1200m for the first time since December last year so faces a distance test from the wide draw.
