Missrock has the wide gate but is still holding narrow favouritism to win the 2017 Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes, registered as the How Now Stakes, at Caulfield Racecourse on Naturalism Stakes Day.
Scheduled as the penultimate event on the nine race card, this season’s Group 3 $150,000 Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes (1200m) features the capacity 16 runners including the emergency Savaju getting a run in place of the scratched Modern Wonder who was drawn the far outside barrier.
Currently three mares are battling for top spot in the How Now Stakes odds online at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au including Missrock who has work to do from out in gate 15.
Damien Oliver rides the four-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock who pays $4.80 for the win, which would be her second from three runs this time in.
Missrock oozes class proven by her Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) second as a $31 roughie behind subsequent Memsie Stakes winner Vega Magic in Adelaide during May.
She won first-up in late August taking out a black-type sprint at Moonee Valley, before her last start fourth behind Russian Revolution in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at the same track on September 9.
This weekend Missrock is at Caulfield for the first time since her seventh in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) last October and gets in okay at the weights with 56kg.
She is followed very closely in How Now Stakes betting by market mover Ravi ($5) and Fuhryk ($5) drawn in barriers five and six respectively.
Peter & Paul Snowden saddle-up Redoute’s Choice five-year-old Ravi who comes off a nice Rosehill win in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at fortnight ago.
She is in the right form and has a good record second-up (5-2-1-0) and ran fourth at Caulfield over 1200m last October second-up on the back of a Sheraco Stakes second last spring.
Fuhryk has winning form over Ravi in Adelaide back on The Goodwood Day when she won the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) and Ravi ran one and a half lengths back third.
The Lindsay Park-trained Star Witness four-year-old has had one run since when seventh to Savanna Amour here at Caulfield on September 2 in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m).
That effort was better than the placing suggests, Fuhryk defeated just two lengths.
She will have taken nice improvement from the run and is undefeated second-up (2-2-0-0) so presents as a genuine danger on the weekend.
Despite the bumper size of the Ladbrokes Odds Boost How Now Stakes field, just one other mare is currently under $10 for the win with the ultra-consistent Prompt Response ($8.50) drawn the rails.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained daughter Beneteau will get things her way from the inside alley and has twice trialled at Randwick leading up to her return.
She is a dual placegetter from four previous runs fresh and races for the first time since the close second to Tycoon Tara at Doomben on June 24 in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
That followed her Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at the same track and this weekend she is in Melbourne for the first time since a Listed win at Sandown-Hillside last November.
