The Ben, Will & JD Hayes-trained Cox...
It is a tight affair in 2017 Stan Fox Stakes betting at Rosehill Racecourse this Saturday with Bjorn Baker’s expensive yearling buy Addictive Nature current favourite for the win.
Eight three-year-olds are in the mix for this year’s Group 2 $200,000 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m), a key lead-up to tougher spring features including the Group 1 $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne next month.
Of the acceptors, five are under double figures in the Stan Fox Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Addictive Nature leads the way at $2.90, the well-bred Savabeel colt having won two of his three career starts to date.
Last time out he stepped-up in grade and narrowly won the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) carrying 55.5kg to victory at Rosehill on August 26.
He only rises a kilo at set weights on the weekend and looks right in the mix again, continuing to live up to his purchase price so long as he sees out the extra metres.
Occupying the second line of Stan Fox Stakes betting is the early market mover, the Gerald Ryan-trained Trapeze Artist backed in from $4.60 to $3.80 after coming up trumps with barrier one.
Ryan could be in for a massive day at Rosehill on Saturday, also saddling-up the clear favourite in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m) with Menari.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is booked to ride Snitzel colt Trapeze Artist in the Stan Fox taking over for the galloper’s regular rider Tim Clark.
As a two-year-old Trapeze Artist did plenty right including his Group 3 Black Opal win in Canberra, his credible Golden Slipper sixth in the mud and his Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes third to Invader at Randwick.
His first-up run on August 19 was a sixth, beaten under three lengths, in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) and he has since won a Rosehill trial over 1020m to bring him on for the weekend.
The Up & Coming Stakes form could prove the one to follow into the Stan Fox Stakes results on Saturday with the runner-up Gold Standard the $4.80 third favourite to improve.
Prepared by powerhouse Tulloch Lodge trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, the Sebring colt was narrowly defeated by the winner Dracarys over the 1300m at Randwick and should enjoy the extra metres in the Stan Fox.
Rounding out the single figure fancies in the race are The Mission ($6.50) and Sanctioned ($7.50) drawn in barriers three and seven respectively.
There will be plenty of hype surrounding the spring return of the Paul Perry-trained The Mission who races for the first time since his runaway win in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick over the mile in mid-April.
Sanctioned meanwhile is an untapped Teofilo colt raced by Godolphin, the James Cummings-trained youngster looking to improve on his lead-up third in the Up & Coming Stakes.
