It is an open affair in Furious Stakes 2017 betting this weekend in Sydney with just seven fillies left in the mix, our insider tips and the updated odds on the Chelmsford Stakes Day event found below.
Due to run as Randwick Race 6 at 3:10pm (AEST) this year’s Group 2 $200,000 Furious Stakes (1200m) line-up lost Ron Quinton’s early withdrawal Devolving leading a diminutive field that is still full of class.
Champagne Cuddles retains $3.10 favouritism in the latest Furious Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au as the Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of Not A Single Doubt looks to improve on her close third first-up in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).
That was her first loss having won her opening two career starts in October last year and June this year and stripping fitter for the Silver Shadow run, looks like the improver ahead of the rematch.
The Lindsay Park-trained Silver Shadow Stakes winner Formality is the $3.50 third pick in the Furious Stakes trailing the favourite Champagne Cuddles and Alizee ($3.40) as the bookies predict the same three to cross the post.
Alizee was runner-up in the Silver Shadow, the James Cummings-trained filly getting the run of the race on the weekend from barrier one with Hugh Bowman coming on for the ride.
The well-bred daughter of Sepoy won at Warwick Farm first-up and while she tried to reel in Formality last time, her favourable barrier on Saturday gives her the chance the turn the tables on her last start conqueror.
Formality dug deep to hold off the challengers for her Group 2 win when resuming and is a livewire chance to do so again pushing her career record up to four wins from seven starts.
The Blue Diamond Stakes third placegetter has been to Randwick twice now for the win and a second in the Percy Sykes Stakes in the mud during ‘The Championships’ and should be well wound up.
So, will the top three in betting salute and if so in what order will they run in the Furious Stakes results this spring?
She only held a narrow margin over the fast-finishes on the line to win the Silver Shadow Stakes first-up, but this Group 1 placegetter did nothing wrong and happy to stick with her to do it again against a similar line-up at the price. She has plenty of class and will be fitter, in well at set weights and won the Group 3 Chairman’s in Melbourne second-up last prep. Kerrin McEvoy retains the ride and with the right run from the gate she can hold them off once more.
While the Silver Shadow form looks hard to knock, think there is genuine value in the odds offered for the resuming Whispered Secret. Newcastle’s Kris Lees is in great form and his daughter of High Chaparral kicks off her three-year-old bid in this on the back of two trials. She took out back-to-back races in the autumn including the Fernhill over the mile at Randwick before her Group 1 Champagne Stakes third behind The Mission. She’ll be better later over further, but looks forward enough for a top three run at a price.
Deserving favourite who was doing her best work in the final stages of the Silver Shadow Stakes. Like the two in front of her that day she will be fitter in the rematch and ready to try and turn the tables. Has the outside alley to overcome, but shouldn’t matter much in a seven starter field. Doesn’t need to improve much to return to winning form.
