Dracarys has continued his smart run of form with an impressive win in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick in track record time this afternoon.
Dracarys was all but forgotten in 2017 Up And Coming Stakes betting markets, but jumped from the barriers well and took a position within the field of nine as Trapeze Artist and Sanctioned dictated early terms.
Faced with plenty of work to do when the field straightened, the Snitzel colt mustered a big turn of foot and flew home on the outside of the field with Gold Standard; getting his nose in the clear with 50m to run.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden was thrilled with the horse’s performance and believes that he will only continue to improve with the run under his belt.
“I think it’s all about finding his niche and how far he wants because compared to last preparation, he is a completely different animal,” Snowden said.
“We’re just attacking this preparation to see if he can get up to a mile and we’re ready pleased with what we’ve been seeing at home.
“It was no fluke his win the other day and he’s bounced off that and we thought that he could daresay win today, off a good draw and with a good ride.
“His price tag suggests he’s going to be good and I think he was just doing it on raw ability in his first preparation.
“What we’re seeing now is a much more relaxed horse who is building into his races and hitting the line very strongly.”
In being crowned the Up And Coming Stakes winner, Dracarys has extended his record to two wins and a minor through only four competitive starts.
