Eight three-year-olds remain in contention for Saturday’s Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; offering punters terrific value from a betting perspective and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Menari has not been seen at the races since early April, but remains the outright $2.60 favourite in 2017 The Rosebud betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Menari more than stamped himself as a colt to follow throughout his two-year-old season; winning the TAB Rewards Plate (1100m) on debut before running second behind Pariah in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on January 28th.
Failing to fire when resuming from a freshen-up for fifth in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), the Snitzel colt was third past the post in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), but was relegated to fourth on protest.
Have clearly had enough by the time he finished tenth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 1st, Menari has trialled well in the lead-up to The Rosebud and should prove extremely difficult to beat in the feature race.
Siege Of Quebec has so-far received the greatest market share of bets to win The Rosebud and has subsequently firmed into outright $2.90 second-favouritism.
Siege Of Quebec made a strong debut to racing when he comfortably beat a smart field of gallopers to the line in a Newcastle maiden race on June 27th, before mustering an impressive kick to repeat that effort and results in the #TheRaces Handicap (1400m) on July 15th.
While yet to contest a race under black type conditions, the Fastnet Rock colt is one of the more talented horses in The Rosebud field and is drawn ideally on the barriers.
Interestingly figuring as the only other horse currently available at 2017 The Rosebud odds of less-than $10, Godolphin runner Trekking has produced several smart performances and results through his short career and is a proven first-up performer.
A comfortable winner on debut at Rosehill in December, the Street Cry colt resumed this year for second in the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) before a lacklustre run for twelfth in the Golden Slipper.
Diamond Tathagata has been a strong and largely consistent performer through his short racing career so far and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current The Rosebud odds of $10, or $2.70 to finish in the first three.
