Nancy narrowly missed out for the punters last start but is tipped to get the job done at Doomben Racecourse this weekend heading the 2017 Hinkler handicap field and odds on Stradbroke Handicap Day.

On May 6 at the Gold Coast Peter & Paul Snowden’s Big Brown mare went down by the barest o margins first-up in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m).

This weekend she is out to atone and leads betting again for the $100,000 Listed Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap (1200m), which runs as Doomben Race 2 at 11:55am (AEST).

Drawn in barrier seven with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride again, Nancy drops a kilo to 58kg and will be getting back again before another charging finish to the line.

The latest Hinkler Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have her at $4.60 to salute in her first Doomben run and end a drought going back to the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) in April of last year.

Close second elect in the Hinkler Handicap betting markets this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at $5.50 is Miss Gunpowder who also comes off a last start second.

Craig Williams comes aboard the Lindsay Park-trained Pendragon four-year-old mare whose lead-up run produced a second behind stablemate Fuhryk in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide on May 20.

Miss Gunpowder benefits from a notable drop in weight for The Hinkler Handicap getting in on the 54kg minimum after carting 58kg at Morphettville.

The Hinkler Handicap field features a full 16 starters at Doomben including the first two of the three emergencies – Le Chef (5) and Quelle Liaison (14) – coming in for the scratched duo of Flippant (17) and Heroic Valour (3).

Despite the size of the line-up just one other hopeful is currently under double-figures for the win with Quatronic ($7.50) chasing a third straight win.

Matthew Dunn’s Nicconi four-year-old is in flying form with a Class 6 win at Toowoomba on April 8 followed by success at Scone on May 13 in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m).

At Doomben the gelding has enjoyed two wins from four starts, but the big test will be the rise from 53kg last time out to 58.5kg on the weekend with Ronnie Stewart to ride.

The current Hinkler Handicap market mover though backed in from $16 to $14 is the rails-drawn Sony Legend, Brian Smith’s six-year-old out to atone for an unplaced run in the wet at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

At a similar price in the markets are the likes of Magic Millions Country Cup winner Irish Constabulary ($12) who will enjoy getting back up to this distance, the 59kg top weight Miss Cover Girl ($13) and first-up off a winning Gold Coast trial Flamboyer ($14).
