Kurt Goldman’s last start Glenlogan Park Stakes winning filly Eckstein is back nominated for the Dane Ripper Stakes 2017 against the older mares in Brisbane this weekend on Stradbroke Handicap Day.
The $200,000 Group 2 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) is one of the key support acts on the card that has been moved from Eagle Farm to Doomben and has dropped back from its traditional 1400m distance due to the course alteration.
A bumper 21 fillies and mares make up the Dane Ripper Stakes nominations this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, many targeting a return to the track on June 24 in the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara.
Among the three-year-olds entered for the Dane Ripper this weekend a standout is I Am Invincible filly Eckstein who was last seen taking out the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1300m) in the wet at Eagle Farm on May 27.
She is yet to race at Doomben, but is a livewire chance to do the double if accepted for Saturday.
The other best out of the Glenlogan Park Stakes results from last month nominated for a rematch on the weekend are runner-up Egyptian Symbol and third placegetter Sold For Song.
Bjorn Baker prepares Stratum four-year-old Egyptian Symbol who was only a quarter length beaten last start after her close fifth in Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) first-up.
She hasn’t won since December and is also yet to post a turf triumph over further than 1200m.
Baker has also nominated for his flying O’Reilly four-year-old Bonny O’Reilly who has won seven of her nine career starts including the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (12200m) at Doomben last Saturday.
Bonny O’Reilly is sweating on a start in Saturday’s $1.5 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m), but if she misses a run in that is likely to head towards the Tiara via the Dane Ripper Stakes.
Egyptian Symbol is also a dual Dane Ripper Stakes – Stradbroke Handicap nominee, as is the Toby Edmonds-trained Sylpheed.
Sylpheed in fact is nominated for three races on the card also in the mix for a possible mile run against the colts and geldings in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) after the Gold Coast-trained Real Saga filly’s second in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) from May 27 at Eagle Farm.
Other notable nominees include Glenlogan Park Stakes fourth placed filly Miss Debutante for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, her stablemate Prompt Response last seen crossing second in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on May 13, multiple Group 3 winner in Sydney Raiment and Smart Amelia coming off a trio of third place efforts in NSW.
