Set to run as Race 6 at 2:55pm (AEST) on the Hawkesbury Gold Cup Day program, the capacity 14 starters is set to face off in this year’s $175,000 Group 3 2017 Godolphin Hawkesbury Crown (1300m).
Latest Godolphin Crown odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are firmly led by the market mover Artistry ($5.50 into $3.80) prepared by Peter & Paul Snowden who won the race with Nancy last season.
Hugh Bowman rides the favourite from a gun barrier four draw (into three) and the Shamardal five-year-old should get the ideal run throughout.
She has been racing in ultra-consistent form including the narrow last start third to Secret Agenda in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 8 and will take some beating.
The dangers in Godolphin Crown betting shape-up as Ron Quinton’s proven Hawkesbury performer Daysee Doom ($4.40) and the returning Gai Waterhouse-trained four-year-old Sweet Redemption ($6).
So will the top three be the first three past the post in the Hawkesbury Crown results or is there value to be found further down the markets from the likes of John O’Shea’s last start Victorian winner Maternal ($11) dropping back in weight or the Chris Waller-trained Elle Lou ($18)?
1st
#2 Artistry ($3.80)
Plenty of boxes ticked by the firming favourite and happy to stick with Team Snowden to prepare back-to-back Hawkesbury Crown winners. Bowman adds X-factor, barrier is ideal and she’ll be peaking third-up after winning her resuming run in Group 3 company at Rosehill before the close Sapphire Stakes third. Loves this distance and will be hard to hold out.
2nd
#14 Brigadoon Rise ($26)
Big odds on offer for the other in-form Snowden-trained runner who can surprise based on her recent nice runs. The Stratum four-year-old was runner-up in the mud first-up before her 1300m Warwick Farm win on April 12. Is undefeated over 1300m with two victories from as many starts over the distance and shapes up as a value roughie is she follows the stablemate.
3rd
#4 Elle Lou ($18)
Another double-figure value chance that could make this a very juicy trifecta. Waller’s mare is drawn nicely and is right down in class after finishing second last (16th) in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf over the Randwick mile last time out. She won a Group 3 earlier in the autumn and is a winner over 1300m and also has winning form at Hawkesbury.
