2017 Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes Field Released

A talented and capacity group of sixteen two-year-old will seek Group 1 success at Royal Randwick on Saturday following the completion and release of the 2017 Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes final field and barrier draw this morning.

Frolic stormed home to finish second in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) a fortnight ago and leads the 2017 Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes final field.

Frolic became the first horse to deliver subsequent Golden Slipper champion She Will Reign her first race defeat when flying home on the outside rail to win the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) in February.

Her last start second suggests that she will relish a step-up to 1400m and is a proven performer on good and heavy going.

Tommy Berry will retain the ride on Frolic in the Inglis Sires’ Produce and will jump from a wide draw in barrier 16.

Tulip beat Menari on protest to finish third in the Golden Slipper and both juveniles have been confirmed in the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes field.

Tulip immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow upon debuting to racing for a smart win in the 1Print Plate (1000m) on New Year’s Eve and resumed on Australia Day for a close second in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview F (1000m).

Running a handy fourth in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), the Pierro filly returned to winning form in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) in what was her only other start prior to the Golden Slipper.

Tulip is drawn to get an ideal run in transit from barrier 2 and will be partnered by Kerrin McEvoy once more in the Inglis Sires’.

Menari was an impressive winner on debut at Royal Randwick on January 14th and the colt made a successful transition to black type company when second to Pariah in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) a fortnight later.

Luckless when fifth in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) in his only other start prior to the Golden Slipper, Menari will jump from barrier 11 on Saturday, with Corey Brown in the saddle.

Godolphin will launch a two-pronged attack in the Group 1 feature after trainer John O’Shea confirmed both Veranillo and Astoria in the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes field.

Winning each of his first two career starts, including the Listed Hinchinbrook Plate (1100m) on February 4th, Veranillo placed second behind She Will Reign in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) before running third in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).

Having finished mid-pack in the Golden Slipper, the Medaglia D’Oro colt has the notable advantage of Hong Kong hoop Joao Moreira in the saddle and has drawn ideally into the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes field in barrier 6.

Astoria will make only his third career appearance in the Inglis Sires’, but won the So You Think @ Coolmore Handicap (1100m) and ran second in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) to date.
