Jungle Edge reproduced Galaxy run to win Star Kingdom Stakes

Victorian sprinter Jungle Edge reproduced his top last start effort when third in the Group 1 Galaxy to lead all of the way to win the Group 3 $150,000 E-Group Security Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill today.

The Mick Bell trained Jungle Edge was a $51 outsider of the field when a flashing third to Russian Revolution in the Group 1 $700,000 Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill last week, but today he was the punter’s pal at $2.80 and got the job done.

While Jungle Edge made it four wins from seven starts on a heavy track, Bell was quick to add that the six year old was a good horse on no matter what surface he raced on.

“He is a great horse. He just gives it every time,” Bell said.

“People want to think he is just a wet tracker, but he isn’t just a wet tracker.”

“He is a good horse and a real good horse on a wet track.”

Veteran jockey Kevin Forester rode Jungle Edge in the Galaxy and was aboard again today and let the six year old dictate the race from the front from the time the gates opened.

Jungle Edge did show his liking for the heavy conditions and was able to hold onto a two lengths winning margin over Dal Cielo ($6.50) with Impending ($5) a further one and three quarter lengths away in third position.

Forrester said that he convinced Bell, who trains at Cranbourne outside of Melbourne, to leave Jungle Edge in Sydney for today’s race and they got the result they wanted.

“I talked Mick into leaving him here after last week.” Forrester said.

“He thought about taking him home, I said don’t worry about that Mick, there is a race for him next week.”
