A field of potential 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes runners will take to the Royal Randwick track on Apollo Stakes Day this Saturday in the Inglis Classic.
Set to run as Randwick Race 4 at 2:00pm (AEDT), this year’s edition of the lucrative $250,000 Restricted Listed Inglis Classic (1200m) has attracted a 14 strong line-up of two-year-olds.
All but two of the young hopefuls have previous race experience ahead of the set weights clash that serves as a potential line-up to the iconic $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 18.
Of the 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes entries running in the Inglis Classic on the weekend, the shortest-priced in futures odds on the Group 1 at Ladbrokes.com.au is the John Thompson-trained Sweet Deal.
The Casino Prince filly is a $51 roughie in all-in Golden Slipper odds, but gets the chance to firm in those futures markets with a maiden win on Saturday.
She has had one start to date when crossing a brave third beaten under a length by the winner Teaspoon at Rosehill on January 28 in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m).
Sweet Deal, who Jason Collett stays on second-up, also sits top of the Inglis Classic odds at a current quote of $3.90 despite her nasty barrier 13 of 14 draw.
She raced wide in the Widden Stakes and was narrowly beaten, so even from her outside draw again she has to be respective with improvement from her debut expected.
Her biggest dangers in the Inglis Classic betting markets this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival are Ultramarine ($5) and early firmer She’s On Que ($7 into $6) who is on debut.
Hugh Bowman is in for a massive day at Randwick engaged for the highly anticipated return of champion mare Winx in the Apollo Stakes and he also rides the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Ultramarine in the Inglis race.
Drawn a treat in barrier two the Choisir colt showed potential on debut at the Randwick track after three trials when 2.5 lengths away fifth to Exceeds.
Will benefit from that run, has the right hoop aboard and gets the run of the race from the barrier as he looks to firm in from his $101 price in pre-field Golden Slipper Stakes betting.
She’s On Que steps out at the races for the first time and Brenton Avdulla is booked to ride the Peter Robl-trained daughter of Uncle Mo from her nice gate four draw.
She’s On Que has had three Sydney trials leading up to her debut including a smart 1050m win on January 27 at Randwick that should have her forward enough for a nice show on the weekend.
Along with Ultramarine the Snowden team are also represented in the Inglis Classic field by San Marco ($14) and Bull Market ($26) drawn in barriers seven and nine respectively.
Corey Brown rides Smart Missile colt San Marco second-up after the youngster’s fourth over 1200m at Canterbury on debut last month.
Josh Parr jumps aboard Bull Market as the nicely-bred son of Written Tycoon looks to improve on his fifth in the same lead-up race.
The other single-figure hope for the Inglis Classic win this year meanwhile is Frolic ($8) out wide in barrier 14 with dual Golden Slipper winning jockey Tommy Berry in the saddle.
Local trainer Michael Freedman prepares the progressive Husson filly who has run second in both starts to date, the latest over 1200m at Canterbury behind Marsupial.
She gets her chance to run top three again and only needs a bit of luck from the gate as the $101 Golden Slipper chance looks for her maiden win.
