Andrews Happy to Get Over It in 2016 WA Guineas

Three-time WA Guineas winning trainer Trevor Andrews declared he wouldn’t swap his 2016 hopeful in the mile classic Get Over It with any other runner in the Group 2 field at Ascot on Saturday.

Andrews is chasing his fourth win in the $500,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) on Railway Stakes Day this weekend saddling-up the progressive Get Over It.

The Saxon gelding currently pays $9 in the latest WA Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au as one of the five single-figure fancies in the capacity field.

Markets are led by Neville Parnham-trained filly Ellicazoom ($4.80) who ran a brave second to Samovare in last weekend’s Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at the track and distance.

Get Over It meanwhile was last seen racing at Ascot on November 5 when fourth crossing under a length off the winner Saul’s Special in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m).

This weekend he gets out over a mile for the first time chasing his first win at the course from three starts and Andrews is happy with his progress over the past fortnight.

“I’m pretty happy with him. I wouldn’t swap him for anything else in the race,” he told The West Australian.

In the Fairetha Stakes Get Over It carried 55kg and on Saturday he rises to 56.5kg at set weights where he’ll meet the first three past the post in that lead-up again: Saul’s Special, Humanity and Lusaha.

Get Over It was held-up for a run in a vital stage on the straight last time out when ridden by Paul Harvey from barrier four.

The youngster also jumped from barrier four first-up with Harvey in the saddle for his third to Caipirinha in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m).

This weekend in the WA Guineas Harvey, who is serving a 26-day ban, is replaced by Perth’s premier hoop William Pike who has his first ride aboard the up-and-comer from barrier two.

“He’s drawn well and it was good to get the services of Willie,” Andrews said.

“He won’t have to work hard to get a spot and he’s got enough pace to sit a bit closer. He had no luck last start. We just need a bit of luck on Saturday.”

Andrews previous WA Guineas winners were King Saul (2011), The Right Money (2002) and most recently Vain Crusader (2006) a decade ago.

The WA Guineas favourite Ellicazoom was put through her paces at the track in a lead-up gallop on Wednesday and caught the eye ahead of Parnham also chasing his fourth win in the three-years-old showdown.
