Six runners remain in contention for Saturday’s 2016 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick, but the result of the race appears a foregone conclusion after champion mare Winx was confirmed for her second-up appearance in the feature.

Winx has firmed into $1.09 odds in 2016 George Main Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au and is subsequently set to jump the shortest price of her career to date.

Godolphin runners Hauraki ($9.50) and It’s Somewhat ($21) occupy the next two lines of 2016 George Main Stakes betting markets.

Winx ($1.09)

Winx is a six-time winner at the highest level, is undefeated for more than a year and should simply win the George Main Stakes. Capping a standout 2015 campaign with consecutive wins in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), the Street Cry mare won the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) upon resuming this year. Subsequently winning the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in autumn, Winx received an ideal tune up when she won the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up this time.

It’s Somewhat ($21)

It’s Somewhat is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run for fourth in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago and will relish the conditions of the George Main Stakes second-up. Winning each of the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) most notably in autumn, the Dynaformer gelding will leave from an ideal drawn on Saturday with in-form hoop Tim Clark in the saddle.

Hauraki ($9.50)

Hauraki stormed home to win the Tramway Stakes first-up, but arguably does not have as much upside as his stable mate leading into the George Main Stakes. A consistent performer for Godolphin in autumn and early winter, the Reset gelding finished in the minors in three Group 1 feature races; returning to the paddock after running second to Our Ivanhowe in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m). Hauraki has the notable advantage of James McDonald in the saddle, but gives 2kgs to Winx.
