Don’t Doubt Mamma has delivered trainer Tony McEvoy a stakes win late of 2016 Makybe Diva Stakes Day; mustering an impressive late turn of foot to take out the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m).

Don’t Doubt Mamma interestingly drifted in the hours leading up to jump this afternoon, but did her chances of success no harm whatsoever when jumping well in the Let’s Elope Stakes and taking an ideal position on the rails as Choose, Thames Court and Catch A Fire set the early rhythm.
Looking for an inside run rounding onto the final straight, a win appeared to be out of reach of the Not A Single Doubt mare when a number of her rivals pulled clear, but she mustered an impressive late sprint when asked for an extra effort and hit the line a half-length ahead of Thames Court; Manageress boxing on for third.
Veteran hoop Dwayne Dunn delivered a typically smart performance aboard Don’t Doubt Mamma to win the Let’s Elope Stakes and believes she will only improve off the run.
“She’s been a great horse to me,” Dunn said.
“It was a little bit awkward today – I raced pretty close which was a bit surprising. It was from a good barrier, but she travelled up well.
“She went a little bit flat early in the straight but she really charged late and she’s a very nice filly. She had to overcome a few hurdles today to get herself out of jail.
“She doesn’t carry a lot of condition, but her coat hasn’t come on yet and Tony said she was about 80% today, and will improve off the back of this.
“I’m sure there’s another good race in store for her very shortly.”
McEvoy was impressed by both horse and rider this afternoon, and believes a race like the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) on Caulfield Guineas Day is not out of her reach this time.
“Dwayne didn’t have many options and he showed great patience, he didn’t panic and trusted her,” McEvoy said.
“She’s a real pro and just loves winning. She’s very talented with 58kgs on her back, because she isn’t very big.
“I’ll talk to the guys that own her, but I’d be pretty confident to get her into a handicap back in weight. She’s got the stats to win a race like the Toorak.
“If you look back at her Sandown Guineas run behind Mahuta whent hey walked that day, she was fantastic and probably should have won that day.
“She’s out of a family that should run a mile and a quarter, bit a mile doesn’t worry me at all.”
